mono amps

hey guys, im a novice in car audio, i know what i kinda want but not sure on the power ratings. ok so im looking at subs right now, i want something good but not too over powering. im thinking gettin one solid 12" 1600w rms sub. 4 ohm dvc. now what will it take to power it up 1000w mono or i have to get the 2000w mono. is this sub too much? or should i just get 2 12" svc 4ohm 600w rms and what would power that up. if you must know the subs they are from crystal mobile sound. either 2 comp 12's or 1 comp x212

this will basically determine the setup of my car, already have the head unit in mind, and will be going with ppi amps, depending what i need to power up these babies. but one mono and 1 4 channel ppi amp and a set of crystal scc6 or q series mbquart components

1600W RMS in a Yaris? :P I thought you didn't want something overpowering... Just remember that if you keep your stock head unit, your fullrange speakers are probably only getting about 10W each. I'm running one 10" with 300W RMS going to it and it works just fine for me. Previously I was running 3 10" subs with 400 watts total and it was way too much.

The last time I heard anything close to 1600 Watts was in my buddy's old Camaro, which had 4 Fosgate Power 10's and a PPI Art Series 1200 Watt beast. First time he tested the system a huge chunk of rusty metal got blown off the bottom of his car. :headbang:

Nice choice on gear though, that Crystal stuff is sweet. $799 for one sub, though, damn! A lot of high end manufacturers underrate their equipment and I suspect Crystal would be one of them, so I wouldn't be surprised if that single 12" could handle 2000 Watts. If I were you I would go with the 1000W amp bridged mono into 2ohms and run it to a single DVC 12". You get more bang for the buck if you utilize your amp to it's full potential. For example you could get a 500W mono amp and bridge it to 2 ohms to get 1000W mono out of it, which I think would be more than enough for a car the size of a Yaris. This beats the hell out of getting an amp that puts out 500W per channel stereo 4 ohms and running two 4 ohm subs, because it'll cost half as much.

so your saying just go with the comp x212 dvc? i found the comp x212 for $344 from an online retailer, im just gonna wrap it n a q logic box. thanks alot for the input, will take pics when this project occurs, will be changing the head unit to clarion usb3573 or just get the other one without the screen. probably need to dynamat everything though

all depends on how much room you want to give up, how much money you want to spend, what you want... sq or spl etc etc

a good 12" sealed in 1 cubic foot with 500 watts will be more than enough for a sound quality (sq) setup

for more output (spl), 1 12" ported in around 2.5 cubes with around 1k might knock your center mirror off

id think about getting a sub that can be wired into a lower impedance like 1 ohm since most amps put out more power the lower the impedance so you'll get more power for your dollar

i'm not even sure that the alternator in the yaris will be able to support the current required for amps rated over 1000W.

good point about the alternator, but you could send that out to get it beefed up if necessary.
