Would you buy a post Covid car?

Surely you have seen the Covid car Colors. You know gray, blue, tan. Whether it’s a Toyota or any other make the paint is identical. They must not have had people working to make all the colors car manufacturers used to use.

I’m thinking it’s gonna take a few years for all the subcontractors get up to speed and make parts like they used to.

My advice is to wait to buy a new car.

Yes. Recently bought a new car for my wife.

We ordered a Mazda CX-30 last November. It was delivered early February. "Soul Red".

to be honest..i dont buy new, i think the newwest car/truck/bike ive ever bout was my 03 zr7 around 2010, or the 08 xb we just bought

sure wife bought the yaris new but that was before we met so i cant count it LOL

actualy its possible the 89 turbo dodge caravan i got in the 96-98 might actauly have been the newest as i remember needing to get the bank to sign off on the loan when i paid for it..but im not sure what year it was when i got it

I would never buy new either if I could work on cars myself. Since I can’t do that since 2001 I buy New Toyotas. Or Lexus which is made by Toyota.

HOWEVER i would buy a new bike or quad tho..specificly honda and only honda...but to be fair, id be hard pressed to replace my xl600r, even with the xr650l, its not really an "upgrade" and they dont offer a sport touring bike to replace the zr7-s, and they dont make the 400ex quads anymore....sooooo

At least I lived in the “golden age of motorcycles“. When I got financially established money was no object when it came to motorcycles. VFR 800. DL 1000. ST 1100. ST 1300. All brand new.

Cars I bought used. I could fix them then. They were just to get from point a to point B as cheaply as possible.

Motorcycles like those are long gone. I don’t even see packs of motorcycles on the freeway anymore. Just one or two here and there. Today $6000 buys you a Honda 500 twin cylinder.

i suspect your not much older than i am as i remember those days very fondly..around 99 i almost bought a new 400ex but figured out i couldnt plate it lol

the vfr was a dream of mine, but, i managed to lay my paws on one with not even 10k miles on it an 03 i got in 09 i think...anyway i adored the vtech and the brakes but HATED the rest of the bike, the posture was soooooo wrong and nothing i did could fix it, the suspension was stone stock and i got it from the original owner and knew the guy....i put all of 300 miles on it before parking it and eventualy selling it
i ran it thru all the roads i knew blind folded...the roads id test n tune suspensions and brakes...this vfr was fun dont get me wrong, but the suspension felt like it was dialed in for a 400lb rider and nothing i did could improve it, after it neerly jumped into a ditch 3 times, as well as spit me out into oncomming traffic due to dips in corners i knew it was unsafe for my agressive 210lb frame and riding style, these same roads my zr7 would suck up the bumps and hold its line at much higher speeds

truely a sad moment tho hondas in my blood

my first bike was the only "new" bike ive ever had a 1980 z50, mom n dad laid it over in the showroom floor told me if i could lift it i could have it....mind you dad rode motocross and mom did poker runs and desert enduro, hell she rode a mr175 elsinor prego with me, so i was born on hondas

so having the kawi zr7 in the stable feels a bit wrong...but i cant imagine finding a bike to replace it with...

ive always bought cars and bikes used, always looking for bikes in the winter when they are dirt cheep

i approve the gsx(and have that can on my zr7)..but that KLR can suck it....i had the displesure of reviving and dailying the bugs out of one for someone...NOT a fun bike, atleast for me...
mind you this is comeing from someone who is used to XL/XRs of the 80/90s ..my xl600r would run circles round that thing without even trying..only thing i liked on the klr was the start button LOL

I’ve had a KLR. It was OK but my BMW F650 with the gas tank under the seat what is a much better motorcycle in terms of handling. It was great except for one thing. The fuel injection went stupid and the dealer couldn’t fix it. I had to sell it for $4000. I paid 9000 for it. I explained to the guy that bought it what the problem was. We emailed back-and-forth for a while. But then I never heard from again.

worked on a few klr.s and was NEVER pleased with any variant 250-650 they all just sucked....between the so so handling and the underpowered at all speeds and gears i talked most of the owners into parting ways with the things for XL/XRL or xt..and im no fan of the XT with its own issues but its still a way better engine and suspension package

the saving grace imo of the KLR is the "size" seems to lend itself to short ppl better and the electric starter

for me a 250/350klr felt more comparable to a xl125 and the 600 to an xl 250r.....the XT's compare to the XL/Rs VERY well, but have major carb plate issues and a few other "small things"

Ref my post from 5th of May:-

So far the Mazda MX-30 has had a flat battery twice. Both time this happened after it had not been used for several days.
The second time, once I got to the battery it measured 4.5 volts. The road service guy who came and started it said it was the third CX-30 with a flat battery he had seen that week.
I have now added a battery charger to my equipment collection.

Meanwhile, the whole family had Covid. I was going to call the dealer to have them check the car over, then I got an email from Mazda recalling the car to have the audio system reprogrammed.

Seems the radio tuner doesn't shut down properly some times, and will cause a flat battery.

It's booked in to the dealer next Thursday.


For the motorcycle stories above, the only bike I currently own is a Honda TLR-200. Great for poking around on my friend's farm at low speeds, but nowhere near the power my previous DT400 Yamaha had...

oh hell the TLR would be fun out here...we never got them here, we did get the engine in an XR form which was a good bike, rock solid would go anywhere you aimed it and not care..wasnt fast or aggressive it was just a patient rented mule

imo the best "farm" bike hands down will always be the TW200...it sucks at everything..its slow but it will litteraly go everywhere and never stop with those big fatty tires
