Just finished my final mod for my shifter and the bushings make a world of difference. I already have the solid bushings on the shifter assembly and a short shifter but these bushings were the final touch it needed and I highly recommend it to anyone with a manual.
The stock bushings will give you hell and you will probably need to dremel them off but its well worth the end results.

I was able to pop mine off with just some thumb force. But yes I agree, these bushings coupled with my TRD quick shift assembly from Japan and weighted shift knob make a world of difference. Now I need to address the shit garbage stock 3.72FD in the transmission and replace it with a 4.31FD + C59 5th gear :burnrubber:

I drove my friends matrix swapped with the C60 and honestly, even he regretted the swap because of the shorter gears and having to constantly shift compared to the longer gears in the 5 speed. On a track its for sure better but if all you do is daily drive and don't track it, you will just get more annoyed with the amount of extra shifting.
The 6th gear is the same as your 5th anyway so you don't benefit from lower rpms, is the C59 fifth gear taller? If so what you mentioned sounds like the perfect solution to the 5 speed, shorter 1st and maybe even 2nd gear but have a taller 5th gear to reduce highway rpms.

C59 5th gear is 0.725:1
C50 5th gear is 0.815:1
With the 4.31 final drive, the longer C59 5th gear drops the cruising RPM to around where the stock 3.72 would be at with the 0.815 5th gear, give or take a couple hundred rpm.
Extra shifting doesn't bother me, I love driving stick, every aspect of it. Its just muscle memory at this point lol
