Hey currently i have tein s tech's with 205/45/16r tires and on hard cornerng i get some rubbing.....i love the springs but what is a good way to deal with rubbing besides different springs and smaller tires? rolling fenders?:iono:
the reason i ask is because im gonna be in an autox comp

I have the exact same problem with my Megans. Mine rub at right around here.
How could you tell?? is there debris of rubber stuck on there?

Small hole rubbed there. At first I knew it was rubbing so I looked in the most obvious place, directly above the wheels and nothing, in a passing glance I noticed the oval shaped hole in the plastic and that was it. I will take a picture when I get home this evening.

With Tanabe DF210 springs, I tried 205/50/16 tires on 16 x 7 SportMax wheels +38mm offset. Way too much rubbing, so I went down to 195's -- can't really tell the difference and no rubbing!

Get some camber bolts. I have the same issue and my camber is off. Gaining some more negative camber will help fix the problem and even out tire wear

I am kinda thrown off by all the rubbing going on.
I ordered my Tein Basics today and I have 205/50/15 +40 offset and I plan on running them as low as they will go. Ha, guess I better plan on getting some spacers or bolts or something, eh?

Spacers make it worse. The rubbing described is on the outside of the wheelwell. The tire hits the fenderliner as circled in green in the picture above. It is really very minor, and sounds worse than it is.

If you don't want rubbing issues, you've got to run higher offsets. It's hard to believe, but just a couple of mm's make the difference!

i have 205/40 17 and it rub for more then a year now.. its not scratching the tire so i dont care.. only rubbing dont hurt ;p

Yea i really dont mind cause its not eating my tire ...but the sound makes it seem so bad

I think it's the offset of the wheels that make a difference. I first ran autox with 17 x 7's and currently run with 16's. both tire widths are 215 wide but the offsets are different. Total diameter is the same.
With the coilovers people tend to want to lower them too low. It's also the spring rates you are running on the coilovers as well. Some people don't have a stiff enough spring rate and are running them low to get the tucked look. On track it doesn't work as well.
So first, check the offset. My friend has 205's (instead of 215's) on his 17x7.5 inch rims to reduce the rubbing and he lowered his car pretty darn low for that neat tucked look.
Problem is when he will go to autox he'll rub no matter what. His spring rate is not hard enough and he's running too low.
So don't run too low if you have softer spring rates.
I think if you are running with lowering progressive rate springs you shouldn't really have a problem with them. Stiffer dampeners will help for this setup.
If you have a set of coilovers with camber adjustments it's fun to dial in the camber and this will reduce the rub too., Just on the street it makes for quirkier handling.
I think ultimately for autox you'd want 15 inch rims. They're lighter and you really want to reduce the unsprung weight of the wheel which helps with braking, acceleration and traction.

I have 17 x 7 inch wheels with 38mm offset (the lowest recommended) with205/40/17 tires and NF210 springs. Absolutley zero rubbing. Maybe it's because of the smaller tires. :iono: I now wish I would have gotten the 205/45/17 for the taller sidewall, but, maybe then I would rub.

I had 215/40/17 and the rear rubbed then I changed to 205's and it never rubbed with the 205's and a +40mm offset.

10 mm, but that was with me and my dad in the front and neither one of us are small guys. I am an ex kickboxer(if your wondering about the weight) 6'4" 300 lbs and my dad is about 230 lbs, and it just barely catches the inner fender in the rear. I didnt have any problems with the front.

It is also the offset you are running... a few of us running 17's with +42 offsets have come to the conclusion with a lowered suspension on a daily driver, who wants to hit the track every now and then... may want to run a staggared setup to avoid rubbing problems and to get the best preformance out of the wheel/tire combo
205/40R17 +42 on the front
215/40R17 +42 on the rear
This set up may evolve overtime, as for no one that I know is currently running it, it is just a theory at this time.... but I am pretty sure that is the setup going on Chino's car here quick like

Looked into rolling the fenders. You paylike $250 and they send the device in the mail. You roll the fenders and send it back and I think they keep$50 of it and credit the rest back. some people do it old school........heat gun and a baseball bat :eyebulge: :eyebulge: :eyebulge:

I was thinking more along the lines of shaving the edge off the inside of the fender. Do you think that would allow enough clearance for the tire not to rub?

Possibly but I am not for sure about shaving it. I dont do alot of body work, but someone on here can point ya the right way. I would roll mine that way there is not a sharp edge that MIGHT catch and then pop your tire.

Mine just started rubbing, alignment was just done not long before, I lowered the car a little for the track. There is a hole rubbed in the plastic. I thought about taking my heat gun and melting/bending the plastic in. I have 205/45/17's with MR Coilovers.

It seems like that would only add a few mm's of clearance. Do you think that would be enough to make a difference? How do you go about removing them? Is there an easy way or is it just however you can manage? Any DIY's available on this?

i just installed Tien s Tech springs approx 2" drop all around
i also installed 18" Rims w/ Falken 215/18/35's
42 offset ( i wished i would have gotten 17"'s instead less offset and 40 series tires.. that's for you newbies..

now - the guy who took the time to post the pic showing the area that rubs - yup thats exaclty right .. (me too)
i plan on rolling the fenders .. i'll try to find somewhere online where i can rent a fender roller .. not sure if i can - if anyone knows of a place let me know!
otherwise I will do this ole skewl style .. baseball bat (wooden)
my tires are fine but i just installed the springs a few days ago .. i suspect that the springs will settle therefore dropping my car even more, hence more rubbing - real bad
so i'm most likely going to wallmart tonight . will get a ten dollar wooden baseball bat .. jack up my car and place the baseball bat in between the fender and the tire (tight fit) then roll roll roll away .. hope i dont crack the paint .. but if i do i already decided i can live with it .. touch up paint my friendz

I've gota Konig 17" with Falcon 205/45/17 and i don't rub at all... not even on hard corners.... you might have some problems with your springs....

i don't know if this would be the right thread to post this but i lowered my sedan on the df210 springs today on stock struts. i currently have 17 inch tenzo rims with 42 offset and 205/40/17 tires and the front is rubbing a lot when i make a right turn and when i hit a dip in the road. would anyone know what might be the problem?

The fenders are pretty good. I don't think you really need to roll it except for the bit that sticks out, but that is where the metal holds the clip for the fender liner.
This is where is usually rubs. If you put a bit of negative camber in the fronts it should help. Also for those who have springs like the DF10's or whatever but still using stock control rates for the struts. You should upgrade to a stiffer strut.
Some of the guys out there have those soft Tein lowering springs and these don't really help out either unless you add the better struts as well.
The larger the wheel, the more unsprung weight. Get a nice set of light wheels, 16's are perfect for this car as far as looks and performance. I prefer 15's. For the street I actually prefer to run narrower tires like 205's instead of the 215's or 225's. For track I use 225's and for solo, either 225's or maybe someday,,,,,,those sticky 255/45/13 A6 Hoosiers!
