Broke the thermostat cable?

2011 Yaris hatchback

Well, I broke something.
The temperature control knob no longer turns to fully hot, only goes to the 3 o'clock position and when the cars is warmed up, only supplies slightly warmer air.

The knob was jamming up for a while now so something finally let go.

Where would I start trouble shooting?

I would start by removing the HVAC panel and making sure the cable is actually broken. It might just be out of place

Yeah, pretty much what it was.
The cable had a lot of play (stretched?) and partially popped off the pulley.

I pulled the cable taught and put in a screw where the tail of the cable goes through.

Seems to work.
