How many miles does the average yaris last for?

I got my 2011 yaris automatic transmission sitting at 200k miles. So far so good. Wondering what the probability is that it goes another 200k with no issues. Maybe reaching half a million miles? :biggrin:

Idk how realistic that is. However I take good care of it with routine maintenance and am the only owner of it. I made my account here back in 2011 when I first got it. My username still reflects my emotion towards it.

I'm debating whenever the engine blows on it as it probably happens with all cars if I should pay to fix it up like new even if it's not cost effective just for sentimental reasons. I've driven just about everywhere in it.

I typically only drive behind trucks usually averaging 70mph or if I'm not behind a truck I'm using cruising max speed of 60mph so wondering how much slow driving might help increase the service life of the engine. I've been doing that since I first got it, rarely speeding. I heard long ago that the lower rpms will help increase the service life of the car.

300K easy, 400k not out of the realm of possibility. Properly maintained, these engines and trannies don't blow. There is a reason why Toyota has been using the INZFE ever since the introduction of the Echo. Typically, depending on where you live, the car will fall apart around the engine first. Where I live, either an accident or rust will be cause of death.

My 2014 is at like 165,000km and other than a very minor oil leak from the timing cover(I think) and a front end clunk I haven't had the time to diagnose yet(leaning towards LCA bolts or a worn bushing), it has literally never failed to start even in -40 with no block heater.

the 1NZ-FE IMO is easily a top 3 contender for best Toyota engine ever made from a reliability standpoint. They are damn near immortal.

I have 318k on mine i have changed a few things, but engine is fine still no leaks gets great mpgs

That's good to know. Luckily I don't live in a salty environment so I'm expecting 400k based on how I've been taking care of it.

Speaking of accidents. My friend who also has a Yaris Hit a deer a month back. Insurance company screwed him over. Damages cost about 2000 dollars to fix is what they claimed, the said since he has over 200k miles it's too old to fix so you can either total it out and get a small check or keep it but they're not paying a single penny to fix. I told him he should sue them because he had comprehensive for just in case a deer pops out in the road at night. That's what he was paying them for the past 10 years. Idk much about how that works but seems wrong to refuse to pay literally anything, even half would have been fine but he ended up paying out of pocket to get it fixed since it was otherwise a fine running car. Just the bumper and headlight were messed up. It cost him less than what the insurance company used as an excuse to get out of paying. I forget how much it was maybe a thousand.


Anyways with that in mind, I've been thinking about getting those bars that cop cars have in front of their vehicles. Just in case a deer jumps out the woods at night. Might help mitigate that issue.

Wonder if that can be done? And if so, how much would it cost and how might it affect MPGs?

Dumb question, are these cars ok to run at 75-85mph for miles on the highway or is it overworking the engine? Buying a 2010 in a few days. I dont drive fast at all, however on the highway there are times where i like to boogie and do that kind of speed. Once a year or once every two years I take a roadtrip up to PA from FL. Driving at 80mph on 95 your keeping up with traffic.

I have 210k miles, and live in Minnesota, which is extremely salty, and I have little to no rust, just a bit of surface rust on a couple dents

I drive at 90 all the time. No problems. No weird vibrations

The engine starts to protest around 100mph (it gets loud over 4000rpm under load)
It's also not a great idea for crash survivability.

Yes OP! Taking care (not abusing) and possibly a fluid change once along the way and the auto transmission should last ages/indefinitly. Echoing the 300k-400k mark for engine life. Own experience with 08 Sedan Manual: driven for years north of Detroit and for >decade in western PA, have 184k and engine runs much like the day I got it. Full synthetic every 5k, new belt every 50k, thing runs like a champ. In fact only "major" repair was the starter as the ground wire rusted out in 2021.

They can, but with any car, the higher RPMs the more wear you give the engine.

I honestly don't care that people go around me. I'm always going below the speed limit. Long as I'm in the right lane on the high way people have no right to get mad.
