Hi,
(New to this forum from the Netherlands.)
I have a 2004 Toyota Yaris with 280k km on it. (~175k miles). It never let me down. Couple of weeks ago my wife call me: the Toyota stalled, just like that. My reaction: That is not possible. Someone is playing tricks. Turned out the gas tank was empty. But it still showed 3 bars (out of the 8). Never had that before.
Replaced the fuel gauge in the tank: No change I measured the resistance full and empty: It runs from ~100 (empty) to 4 ohms full. Both with the new and old fuel gauge. That was not the issue. Next I measured on the odometer unit. And I measured the exactly same resistance full and empty. So that pretty much rules out cables and gauge.
I read someone replacing the elcos on the PCB in the odometer unit. There are. I took them off and measured them. They are dead on. 470 uF measured 472 and 220uF measured 225.

Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this. (other than just filling up every so many miles/kms.

Overall in the 280k km, I only had a broken wire of the ABS and a wheel bearing. Twice a year new oil and filter and every other year break fluid and coolant.
I mean the thing is rock solid. It deserves the gauge to be fixed.

Have you given it a chance to prove itself to not be a hiccup?
