Even with the car off and parked-up in the driveway, if I pull at the shifter I get a 'squeak squeak' sound (and that's with the foot off the clutch). I'm thinking that there's some kind of connection-joint under the shifter that needs lubrication. Any suggestion?

Normally, for a problem like this, I'd take it back to the dealership and let them figure it out. But my 07 Yaris now has 61,000km and I don't want to pay for something that I can do myself.

I think it needs lubrication.Just remove the plastic parts and see for yourself.

I've noticed a slight squeak in mine too recently but off and on. Started around 80,000 miles. Figured it was a lubrication issue but can't pinpoint it. It has since gone away.

even when out of warranty? mine did it since day 1, and has gone worse since. But it's always a come and go kind of thing, so i never went to the dealer for it (it also meant taking 1-2 hours off from work too...)

Do a search. There is a post here somewhere that shows the under-hood point to lube.
Instant relief and no tools required. Just an aerosol blast.

if i had time, i wouldn't have driven mine for 4 years, and yet it is still squeaking. lol

having a garage would also help. Usually, by this time of the year, i've already waxed my car twice. I have yet to wash my car now.. :)

either way, hopefully i'll have time to mess with my car, and fix all the squeaks and rattles!! I'll definitely take a look at the shift rods.

the last free oilchange i did at the stealership, I told the mechanic about the shifter sqeek. Sounded like metal on metal but real quiet. He sprayed some lube on it in like 2 seconds done, problem solved.
