i got the rs spoiler from ebay from critical a few weeks ago. and i called toyota to make an appointment for them to paint it and then install it for me. they estimated it to be around $185 for paint & installation. so i went in today and the estimator and the assistant manager n like 4 other body shop staff ppl told me that they can't install it. #1 it's too risky. #2 the plastic that the spoiler is made of might crack and the whole spoiler will fall off or come flying off if i drive too fast (LOL!!) #3 they couldn't install it and warrantee the installation (because it is too risky?) they also said that the metal part where the spoiler is drilled into the top of the hood might start cracking and then it might crack to the rear window and mess up the window. omg... i've seen people on yarisworld with this spoiler installed. and there hasn't been any problems right? what do you guys think? should i just get it painted at toyota and get it installed at a body shop? ahhhh. im so sad. i was so excited to get this spoiler installed... and i bought it already. so. I DUNO. HELP PLEASE :[ :frown:

i bought the same spoiler from the same ebay seller. had it painted at a local bodyshop and installed it myself, i'm a tech so i'm used to doing that kind of work, but any body shop should do the work for you.

i have had it for about 2 months and i have no problems at all. good luck!

^ is it the same as the official Toyota rally style spoiler? Because when I purchaes my Yaris, they say the official Toyota rally spoiler is only for the non-RS version but they still ordered the rally style spoiler for my RS Yaris and they had to do a bit of custom work to install it because the new spoiler drill hole does not match the OEM spoiler it originally came with and they had to plug the original holes with some plugs... but they still managed to put it on nicely like many other rally spoilers I've seen up here in Canada... so if you are in Canada, go to the dealership and get it done. If not, maybe you can call a Canadian dealership and have them ship the spoiler to you and you can get it install at your local Toyota dealership

here is a picture for the one from Toyota Canada

i even went to the dealership to ask them how much it would cost to have it painted my colour and installed and the price was like around 380CAD total including buying the spoiler...is this a good deal?

I've had mine for about 4 months. My uncle works at a body shop and helped tell me which items to use when installing and nothing has happened to it so far. The part about it falling off if driving too fast is total bs. I've taken my car past 100mph plenty of times and nothing happens to the spoiler.

how does that translate to US $?

i paid $100 for paint and i did the install. but i got a discount since i work for the company. i think an average price for paint is about $150. plus whatever the installation is.

I've seen 3 people including me on this forum bought it from the dealership... for me I Know they will paint it and install it and it will be warranted so why not... by the time you purchase one off ebay and pay to paint and install its probably close to $350 CAD ($120 USD for the spoiler with shipping so about $150 CAD, about $200 paint and install?) so why not get one from Toyota when you pick up your brand new car

yea painting it is probably going to be the most costly part of it but if installed correctly then it should be fine. hehe. I'm the only one with the RS spoiler that I've seen in my area out of all the yaris i seen so far. ^^

yrsdrgn did u install it urself? other than the two bolts did u also drill holes into the front side of the top? this guy from a chinese body shop told me he can do it with a few modifications. can u like tell me how u installed it?

yrsdrgn
06-19-2007, 12:04 AM
yea installed myself. i only drilled on top.......no need to drill anywhere else. the Rally spoiler on the other hand needs more drilling. aside from that, just use the double-sided tape (try to get some more of that stuff) and that's basically it.

try asking around some other body shops? if i lived near your area i could've helpd you get it painted for a discounted price frm my uncle's place but i dont live in the 909. Try searching for some other body shops and see if any of your friends know how to install the spoiler.

hey maybe you can get it painted from Toyota then you can ask yrsdrgn to give you a step by step instruction and maybe you can ask your neighbour or a guy friend to help you install it by following yrsdrgn's instructions... just an idea...

Yeah, seriously. I have the same spoiler just haven't put it on yet since I'm waiting for the rest of my kit.
Those fools over at the dealership just don't want to be responsible if they screw up on non-official parts. They're probably not familiar with the material or done poor jobs in the past w/ the same material.

just wondering why you would pay the inflated price to have the dealership paint the spoiler? Bodyshops and dealship get there paint from the same place, the local vendor that mixes them at them time the dealer or bodyshop orders them... I would have the local bodyshop paint and install for a much lower price, and ask them about a warranty, most bodyshops have a lifetime warranty on there paint jobs

yrsdrgn

dont use the screws given in the package...............those are actual screws not body mounting screws or w/e they're called......i forgot what they're called but a body shop should have some avalible for you.

O. and you can primer it youself and it'd make the cost of the painting go down since you did some of the labor. That's where the cost is in mainly.....the prepping of the body part. ^^ Just a thought to have some fun in this little venture

Or she could do it herself! Girls can get their hands dirty too :)

I totally agree with her. It's pretty cool seeing girls tune their cars by themselves makes for fun conversations about cars hehe

My step dad works at our local Toyota dealership as a mechanic, thus allowing him to get parts at his cost. Does Toyota sell the RS Spoiler or is this something you have to purchase from a third party, as many people reference eBay?

Also, it looks like from what I've read, compatible with the Yaris 2d LB?

yrsdrgn
06-21-2007, 02:02 AM
hehe the Yaris RS spoiler is only for the 2dr LB in the US =P you can get the Rally type spoiler from Canada through Toyota but the RS one i think the only option is from elsewhere like ebay. Don't quote me on it because that's just from what I've read and from my experience (RS spoiler from ebay)

the RS spoiler is only available though ebay or though one of Thomas's group buys from Thailand. Thomas's part is an Toyota factory accessory and cost about the same as the ebay replica part from the same corner of the world. Both pieces can come painted ready to install.

When I bought my Yaris heere in NC back in the spring, I wheeled a deal with them to put a spoiler on it. I figured it would be the little flip type spoiler. But it was the Rally Style spoiler instead. Not sure if they had to paint it or not, but it's the exact color of my yaris and they installed it. I posted pics of it back then...let me see if I can find them again....

Actually here's a link to the other thread with the photos... http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5844

All these i have already hear it......And I saw some of these my self. The guys in toyota are not stupid and they want our money!!!BUT if the kind of job that there are going to do is risky they never gona take it.....This spoiler i took me and my friend last year and paint it in a local bodyshop (the top in my city) which by the way warning me for the kind of material.....After the 2006 winter the paint start to fade and peel of.....A note the toyota said to me the same thing that said to you....My friends lost his spoiler in a national road....Now I don't wont to defamate the E-Bay seller but remember the fake is not like the original....Now i put the TTE spoiler which is much more solid than the other and has much more money of course and i have a lifetime warranty from toyota for the colour and for the installation (http://www.tte.de/cm_yaris_XP9.htm) and the feeling in the high mph is different...And I need to tell it one more time I don't want to defemate the seller but I just want to tell my experience on it....
