Looking for advice — I’ve got a 2006 Toyota Yaris that won’t crank when I turn the key. Dash lights come on as normal, but when I press the clutch and turn the key to start, the dash lights go out and nothing happens. The car sat for about 2 months before I bought it and apparently it started fine before that however the battery is completely dead so I replaced it with a new one.
Here’s what I’ve tried and confirmed so far:
• Battery is brand new and fully charged
• Battery terminals are clean and tight
• Starter motor works — I applied 12V directly to the solenoid spade terminal and it cranked and engine started and ran fine
• Starter relay is good (tested it out of the car)
• Clutch pedal switch is working (I’m guessing as the dash lights only go out when pedal is pressed, so the circuit is activating or am I wrong )
• Ground from battery to engine is solid
• No voltage is reaching the solenoid signal wire when trying to crank
• Tested with multimeter on the solenoid’s spade connector — got 0V when someone turned the key
• Fuses are all good
Seems like the wire from the starter relay to the solenoid is either broken, corroded, or disconnected somewhere — just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or knows a common failure point?
If anyone’s got any other suggestions then let me know
Thanks
