2007 Toyota Yaris Fire Incident - Has Anyone Experienced This?

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here to see if anyone has experienced something similar with their Yaris. On the afternoon of Monday, September 8, 2025, my 2007 Toyota Yaris unexpectedly caught fire while parked. It was a shocking and distressing event, and I’m trying to understand what could have caused it.

I’ve attached a pdf with photos showing the damage, most of it is concentrated at the front of the vehicle, with visible burn marks along the side. The interior was also completely burnt. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the car was severely damaged.

Has anyone else had a fire incident with their Yaris, or heard of this happening? I’d really appreciate any insights, possible causes, or if this might be a known issue.

Never heard of any spontaneous fire issues. This is definitely a one of.

It's not a common issue with the Yaris, but any old car can spring a fuel leak from the fuel injection system. Especially cars that have lived in the heat of California for 19 years.

We visited California from the East coast. I saw more car fires there in 6 months than I have in a lifetime here in PA.
