17" rims + noticable power loss????

I'm going to replace ,my 15" steel wheels soon, and I was looking at some rims that were 17" and just about 17lbs ea. I would like to hear from the people who have already put 17's on their cars. Do you have a noticable drop in acceleration or is it more of a "if it's not hooked up to dynometer you won't notice it" situation. Any personal experiences would be appreciated.:burnrubber:

I put 18s on my Scion xB (same engine) and I noticed a loss in power. I eventually bought some light-weight 16s and am very happy with them.

Remember that it's not just the weight that effects the power loss - the fact that you're putting weight further and further away from the center of the wheel matters just as much, if not more. A heavier but smaller wheel may give you better performance than a lighter but larger diameter wheel. So ideally you should use the smallest wheel that with give your the cornering performance you want to get the best accelerating performance.

If the overall diameter of the new wheel/tire combo is larger than stock the car will be more sluggish off the line. The final drive ratio has been made taller.

With the wheel/tire size I'm picking the overall height is exactly the same, I'm just a little worried about the weight making the car feel sluggish, at least until I can get the whole header, CAI, exhaust problem figured out so the engine picks upa few more ponies. Gods, I wish those aftemarket people would hurry up, how hard can it be to make these things when the scion has the same engine???? oh well, patience, grasshopper, patience....

on the average bigger wheels = more rotational mass = loss of acceleration.

if you want light weight big wheels, 5zigen FN01RC's are fairly light. it is very popular in the 240sx for the affordability and light weight. IIRC they also make them in 4x100 in the general FWD offset

I believe that the preferred tire size on the yaris if U put it in the tire calculators that you can find all over the net is 215/40/17 and or 205/40/17
