View Full Version : management/tuning on +/- stock car?

I'm wondering how much power could be extracted by throwing an eManage or V-manage or similar and tuning a stock or nearly stock N/A Yaris.

I know the factory tune is very conservative so there is room for a more aggressive map. Any thoughts on this idea? What if we could extract another 25hp out of it without changing hardware or going F/I?

AFAIK nobody's really done much in that respect, as the ECU is quite quick to counter any modifications that people may make to the A/F ratio mapping

the tein yaris (siphon mag, issue 002) made 106.1 whp and 104.4 ft/lbs with custom exhaust work, an intake and the camcon II. the camcon can adjust a/f, and the vvt-i.

ok, found prices and what it does.

All it seems to do is just electronically modifys the camshaft, without messing up the vvti. Also it 'Can' as stated on its site, to modify the air/fuel mixture. how much i cant tell.

If you want to say a roundabout 106.1whp would be around the number were looking for in the 120 ballpark fwhp
http://www.power-enterprise.co.jp/assets/pdf/camcon/1NZ-FE.pdf
This site only has a nice graph showing what exactly it does to the engine:
Top is cam ratio. Bottom is Fuel/Air Mix, now how this relates to the stock, I dont know... will have to do a bit more reading.

Price is ¥39,900 (its about $350USD)
Harness looks like around ¥4,200($35)
Shipping would be high, but if it works, good deal

Looks like you need to hack up your factory harnesses..risky business. I'd be inclined to either wait for a plug-n-play, or at least hold off until the factory warranty

Depends, looks like the Harness for the controler goes right into the ECU, maybe the ECU has an expansion port, or a Diagnostic port? wouldnt know.

Just email tech@cobbtuning.com and tell them to make an AccesPORT for the Yaris. That way you can have full plug and play tune-ability of the factory ECU(timing, fuel, VVTI, etc.), and no piggy back crap for the stock ECU to out learn.

You can also use it as a tach! :eyebulge:

How can you use it as a tach? :iono:

You can set it to have the display screen be a gauge, and just about every signal the ECU receives can be displayed as a numeric number and analog gauge combination. RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temp, intake temp, etc.

The AccessPORT's features include:
• On-the-fly map switching
• Monitor vehicle sensor data and display in analog or digital format
• Vibrant color graphic display with First-Ever full 260,000 color OLED, high resolution screen
• Read/Clear engine trouble codes
• Preloaded with performance, economy and convenience maps
• Update via the Internet
• Measure 0-60 and ¼ mile times
• Adjustable on-screen Shift Light functionality
• Estimates horsepower and torque
• Displays current and averaged fuel economy
• Drag race simulation with reaction time and “time slip” data
• Built in on-screen help mode function
• Multi-Language support
• RoHS compliant (Lead Free design)
• Custom performance tuning for your specific vehicle and modifications as provided by an authorized AccessPORT ProTUNER™ center, or upgrade to the StreetTUNER™ software package for do-it-yourself tuning.

Call and talk to their tech support guys, I'm sure they would be more than willing to explain the functionality and features of the AccessPORT to you: 801.713.0035

Cobb hasn't exactly been speedy at adapting the AccessPORT to non-Subarus. They've been saying they were going to bring out the AccessPORT for a few Mazdas (RX-8, Mazdaspeed-6, Mazdaspeed-3) for a couple years now and nothing's really come of it.

If you just want to reach the tach signal off the OBD port there are plenty of units out there that can do it for you already, though:

Get everyone wanting a Yaris AccessPORT to call or write COBB, otherwise they probably wont make one. :iono:

There's the rub -- I'd like to see the list, in my area, of "authorized tuners". I ran into this problem with the UNIchip and had to switch management systems on my other car. Don't want it to happen again.

Check out the "Dealers" link on their website:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/dealers/Default.asp

Some of them in my areas are labeled "AccessTUNER." Probably not a comprehensive list, but it's a start. Just because they currently tune the Subarus may not necessarily mean they tune other car if/when Cobb releases other AccessPort products, though.

HKS's Fcon Vpro is about the only thing out there that is fast enough to properly run/tune the 1NZFE.

RCTS Canada has done a lot of Vpro work on the VVT-i engines. The stock ECM controls ONLY the VVT-i and the Vpro controls everything else. It is NOT a piggy-back system or "plug-n-play" system, but it doesn't require butchering the OEM harness either.

Check it out: http://hksusa.com/products/more.asp?id=1965

Recently they built a Blown Lotus Elise (2ZZ-GE powered) and were able to keep the VVTL-i fully functional but also obtain TRUE standalone tunability via the Vpro.

Any questions, just shoot me a PM or email!

ciao,

-Aaron

well, that looks good, but if there isn't an existing harness made for it, a custom one is going to double that cost, at least. .. plus tuning.

the 1.5l can make that sort of power. STOCK.

Yeah, the stock numbers for.the car are whats quoted above, I know this car has more power in it, and knowing the Xb, Xa, And Xd so far as I know have similar if not identical engines but higher numbers. I'm not like TOTALLY sure but I've been on the brink of madness trying to understand these engines by purely asking questions to specific people.

Engineers, Racers of our cars and others, Back yard performance mechanic, mechanics etc. People with hands on experience. All in all aI know engine management is something very important to fine tuning the car along side bolt ons and more.

I wanna learn cause I plan to make my car fit my profile.

Lmao, am I the guy that brings these threads back from the dead all the time?

I always ignore the date and tune into the subjects usually.
Any of you guys know the Apexi throttle control or anything like it? I'm interested in the electronic tuning stuff for the car. Bolt on's are pretty straight forward mechanical stuff but tuning it to get the most out of the bolt on's is where things sorta start to get better/interesting.
