That is uglier, more proprietary, twice as expensive, less useful and harder on a battery than my trusty Palm TX. Sure, the TX isn't a phone, but that's what my Razr is for, and if I really wanted both in one unit I would just get a Treo, and still be much better off than with an iPhone.
Just like the iPod is a little bit neat but totally overrated and overpriced MP3 player, the iPhone is a little bit neat but totally overrated and overpriced phone.
Let's also not forget that in the U.S. the iPhone is now an AT&T product, and AT&T is the company that brought you a promise to filter your Internet connection for copyrighted material two weeks ago. I say screw them both.

Not to mention you can't replace the battery yourself. Personally the last thing I had you couldn't replace the battery in was a disposable flashlight 6 years ago.

I'm personally stoked about this phone. I'm an Apple fan, so I guess that has a part in my obsession. While I'll agree that there are phones out there that do the same things, none of them do it as easily as with the iPhone. It's the same reason why I use OS X instead of Windows. They can basically do the same things, but it's laid out so much better.
The main thing for me has to be the eye candy, it's just amazing with the transitions. Like I said before, other phones do the same things, but if you actually take some time and watch the videos on apple's site, you'll see why it's so hyped.
And to the people that bitch about the lack of 3G, most people that make those comments are the same people that DON'T have 3G in their area. Most providers have 3G in 150-300 cities!?

Thank you... It seems most people either Love or Hate Apple... True there might be fewer of us Apple Fans out there, But at least we know what we like!
I have found that most people who have something Negative to say about this iPhone haven't seen any of the "Instructional Videos" they have just read other peoples Opinions and qoute them as fact!
The people who take there time and research things for themselves only have one Negative thing to say... It Cost Too Much!
Well Hell, Welcome to Apple... It's like if Lexus made a YS150!

God, I want one too. (but I really want a G3 as well so I can use it traveling to Japan) I am actually picking a new phone from suncom right now, thinking about the 7130g or the Pearl, but I think the 7 has a good bit better phone connection, I have an Ipod and I don't REALLY need a digital camera. So the expandable memory won't help THAT MUCH and it would cost more money since it wouldn't take my miniSD. Anyway, thats mythoughts, help me out if you have any advice!

I would rather wait for at least a 2nd generation of this product, both for price and reliability reasons.
Look at the history of Apple's products (or any other company's, for that matter): 1st generation stuff always ends up being the worst one. I tend to think about 1st gen products like a huge beta test.
On the other hand, they look pretty good. Hope you enjoy your new iPhones when you get 'em!

definitely great eye candy, the sliding touch interface seems very intuitive too, but I keep hearing from people who have tried it, that it tries to do and be too many things at once, and the hardware can't keep up, so you get frequent slowdowns and freezes and so on...
I've had all sorts of phones in the past, from the plain and basic nokia 3310 to the monstrous old iPAQs with the phone dock thingie... And the best ones I've owned are the Sony Ericsson's K range, small, light, powerful enough yet not draining batteries, not insanely expensive, awesome built-in camera, just perfect for my needs

well i don't even have a cell phone, so i won't be buying this one,
but if i were a cell phone user, i wouldn't buy this product for the simple reason that much like an ipod, this product is over-priced and will be lucky to last for two years.
obviously, for a lot of people, they will be wanting something new in two years anyway, but for me, i want a product that is quality and will last.

Apple has come a LOOOOONG way from the 90's when they were the Ford Festiva of computing. Now they make some of the nicer computers around, and easily the most stable short of Linux.
The iPhone looks sweet. Problem is historically phones with touch screens do extremely poorly. Of course, if anyone can make that scheme work, Jobs can!

very true, if you are in video production you wouldn't want to use a pc, but for anything else a pc works just as well, and is a lot cheaper for a comparable system.

I can't talk about this here... I have been a fan of Apple since the late 80s!
Steve Jobs is my HERO... and as far as Business Practices go... No one can even stand in this man shadow!
Now if you are talking about Apple from 1993-1997 when Steve Jobs was NOT the CEO then your right it was a much different story... You know it took Jobs almost 4 years to correct the problems that Spindler and Amelio caused to Apple...
Either way... Why won't anyone do an Apples-to-Apples (Pun Intended) comparison to the Trio? Scared?
Also the 3G system in my area is only a 25 mile radius... that ends 1 mile away from my house...
So why make it 3G, when 3G will make it more expensive, for something most people will never use... then it will be a WAIST OF MONEY!
The worst part about the iPhone is AT&T... and lets not forget Apple wanted to go with Verizon... But Verizon said no... Most of the worst reviews are from them!

My first was a C64 as well, grandmother bought it new and gave it to my brother and I with something like 40+ games on cartridge and (cassette) tape. The old antenna switch was hard to get working right, and we had it for about a year before we figured out how to use the cartridge games. After I got my Mac Classic (my first "real" computer") my mom said the C64 was my brothers. He left it outside in a box so my Mom threw it and all the games away. I ended up getting another 64 a couple years back but ended up donating it to Goodwill because it didn't have any games. My Mac classic was won during a summer reading contest between 3rd & 4th grade. I liked it a lot because it was the same computer that my schools had (hence lots & lots of games on floppies). My parents even upgraded the memory to a whopping 4mb of RAM so I could run Aldus Pagemaker 1.0. My first PC was a 286 (free) then I bought a 486 compaq server, then after that I built my first AMD system and have been hooked on PCs ever since. I broke the hell out of my classic trying to open it, while the PC manage to satisfy my need to tinker. I use a mac mini core duo (need both platforms) at work and love the small size.

I'm a fan of Apple's products, but I'm not really interested in the iPhone.
Don't get me wrong, it seems like a nice little device. I'm sure it has a great interface, and makes doing things that are normally very complex on other smartphones pretty simple. My current prepaid Motorola phone works great, though, and I don't need a lot of fancy features regardless of how easy they are to use.
If it was comparable price-wise to my current phone I'd at least consider it, but I'm not willing to pay that kind of premium when I don't use my cell that often.

does the Iphone have that same screen as the ipod that once it's in your pocket you've placed millions of scratches on it?
I've got my reasons as to Why I don't want one:
- dunno what expandable memory it uses (if any, the previous link said it comes with only 4gb & 8gb which is max for flash memory but come on it's an ipod too not a shuffle or a mini)
- you must purchase an apple sim card
- you can only use bluetooth headsets (NO COMPUTER LINKING) (probably will let you link to other phones)
- for those of us in metro areas where 3g is available it'd be nice as all phones with 3g switch down when it's not available to Edge or gprs is it?
- the battery is internal
- att doesn't offer any current cusomters discounts or anything
- you have to pay an Iphone fee on top of your regular bill? WTF?
- you can only video conference with other iphones...if you're waiting in line for the iphone, might as well get to know your other apple friends cuz they;ll be the only reason to get the featuer, but you still have to pay for the conferencing even if you don't use it..
only positive (in my eyes) is that it has a output jack

iPod nano is the most popular model, topping out at 8gb. It's the most memory on any phone.
- you must purchase an apple sim card
Not true, it comes loaded with a newer style sim, but if you want, if you have a newer style sim, you can use it, but why?
- you can only use bluetooth headsets (NO COMPUTER LINKING) (probably will let you link to other phones)
I can count how many times I've used bluetooth to link to my computer on one hand. USB is faster.
- for those of us in metro areas where 3g is available it'd be nice as all phones with 3g switch down when it's not available to Edge or gprs is it?
I see your point, but the other 95% of people don't have 3G, plus 3G data radios are BIG and kill your battery life.
- the battery is internal
Yea, kinda sucks, they should have made the black part removable.
- att doesn't offer any current cusomters discounts or anything
Yea, sucks, but the data plans are built in, and I think the prices are decent.
- you have to pay an Iphone fee on top of your regular bill? WTF?
Not true, 59.99 is what I pay a month, and that gives me 450 minutes, 200SMS, Unlimited Data and visual voicemail.
- you can only video conference with other iphones...if you're waiting in line for the iphone, might as well get to know your other apple friends cuz they;ll be the only reason to get the featuer, but you still have to pay for the conferencing even if you don't use it..
Actually, you can't video conference at all, but you can have a 6 person conference call which is pretty cool.
only positive (in my eyes) is that it has a output jack
People that come in with a negative look aren't going to change. Also, you might want to get your facts straight about the phone before you bash it. I have one now, and by far the best phone I've ever had. Amazing UI is what sold it for me.

so when I talked to the at&T reps they were lying to me about having to pay a data service fee? there is one...it's $20...and I'm not bashing it for the sake of bashing it, I'm trying to make people who see this phone as the coming of the messiah of phones see it for what it is...an ipod with a phone accessory, you know like that camera attatchment you can get for the ipod?
people have been hacking their ipods forever, putting whole new Os and programs on them so possibly someone will have an iphone and make it work the way it should...I dunno...
anyways the video conferecing is what i meant but you can only do it with people who have an iphone...did everyone you know who you have to conference with get one?
my problem with the memory isn't the fact it comes with 8gb..it's the fAct that it is not expandable, and or it's not a harddrive platform. it's not the only phone that you can get 8gb with..once sony gets the 8gb memory pro duo all SE phones capable will be capable...
why pay so much and get only minimal video usage and minimal mp3 and data storage?
I also don't like the fact that greed, commercialism and advertising blitzes help create this kind of crap >>>>> $21 million iPhone (http://cgi.ebay.com/8GB-Apple-iPhone-21-Million-Dollar-iPhone-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ260134027297QQihZ016QQcategoryZ64355Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) <<<LINK

When has ipod ever had an expandable memory? You get what they give you and that's it. As far as I remember, I never had expandable memory with my ipod that doesn't work anymore.
The $20 additional is for existing customers only to add to their current plan. the $60 is for new customers. $20 gives existing customers the data, visual voicemail, 200 sms, etc. By the way, what is this visual voicemail anyway?
And I've read somewhere that 3G could have been put in.. and in areas w/o 3G, it can easily switch over to EDGE. But I think that would be more expensive.

You are correct about the plans. The visual voice mail is a menu that will display your voice mail messages so you can pick just the one message you want to listen to. So if you have 12 voicemails and want to listen to number 11, you don't have to listen to the ten before it – you just click on that message, and you can rewind it with a slider.
3G radios are big time killers have better life. The edge speeds are slow, but not too bad for basic stuff. When I'm on the go, the Edge is enough. Most places have WiFi anyway.

Ive got a TX, but im actually getting sick of it. the screen doesnt calibrate properly with a screen protector, doesnt work with vista properly (have to sync over wireless) javascript doesnt work, email doesnt work (i fixed it now its f*ed again) and i was listening to music and i uninstalled the player (trial) and now its stuck playing the one song in the background
