urgent info needed..(before going shopping)

first of all,
i already pick Tanabe DF210 for the suspension, will get it this Thursday and hopefully installed same day.
Then,
the rims/tires..I will buy them the next day.

now the question is,
which set below that will rub,

17x7 rims and 205-40-17..?
or
17x7 rims and 215-40-17..?
or
16x8, 6x7 rims and 215-40-16..?


basically,
i want to lower the car and put a nice 16 or 17 rims with wider tires. (215 maybe?)

my wife approved the funds...so it's my best chance to dress up the baby :biggrin:

please help,....really need this info.

215's on 17's may rub after the springs settle. It shouldn't be bad, probably on the roughest of roads or hardest cornering on the plastic wheel well liner. Look for a 38mm offset in the 17s, I believe that's the magic number.

I had 215/40/17 on my sedan and it rubbed in the rear, but I dont know how the harchbacks are. The rims were 17x7 with a 40 mm offset.

According to the Thai Yaris freaks. 215/40R17's won't rub at all with lowered suspension. I have 215/45R17's and they have rubbed twice - both times in the front only, at speed (140+ KM/hr), on hella bumps, and with a 2" drop courtesy of a few hundred kilos of load. Only minor rubs in any case, so I'll be using the same fitment when I go low.

Note however that every brand of tire is slightly different - some 215/45R17's won't rub, others might have serious problems. I'm running Dunlop SP 9000 Sport for reference.

RIMS: You can run 16x7's or 17x7's. I wouldn't advise rims any wider for most Yaris applications.

OFFSET: The Yaris is quite sensitive to offset. I recommend no less than 40mm to avoid problems; however 42-45mm would be better.

TIRES: Don't run wider than 205 rubber to avoid rubbing problems.

I'm running 215 tires, suspension lowered roughly 1.5", and I get infrequent rubbing (only front outside wheel when braking into a curve, and hitting a bump or other uneven surface).

For you, I'd recommend sticking with the 215/40s, they seem the best combination for a 17" wheel.
