That's a beautiful commute... what's up with all the solar panels on the dash?

The larger one up against the windshield is a trickle charger which is hooked directly to the 12V battery. The smaller ones are portable, folding units that charge up my handheld devices, such as my cellular phone and my PDA.

Is Lake Tahoe still there?

I got the 12V one via Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_/002-2433073-7588857?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Sunsei+Solar+2-Watt+12-Volt+Charger+%23SE-135&Go.x=6&Go.y=8&Go=Go), and the small ones from eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/SOLAR-BATTERY-CHARGER-FOR-MP3-MP4-Cell-Phones-USB2-0_W0QQitemZ150136279394QQihZ005QQcategoryZ118262QQ cmdZViewItem)

Heya! I'm on the south side, in Damonte Ranch. I rarely make it anywhere near the north side, or UNR (although I was at Rancho San Rafael Park just 2 weeks ago for a wedding), but if you folks would like we can get together and I'll give you a hypermiling clinic.

Do you mean your wife's Yaris is pink? Or that your wife dresses in pink when she's in her Yaris?

I'm glad to hear of another Yaris owner here, though. I've only seen one sedan and two liftbacks, one of which had California plates. I have yet to spot one traversing Mount Rose, too. Lots of Prii, but no other Yarii.

You're lucky to have a beautiful commute to drive through. Theres mention of snow. Do you have photos of what it looks like when its blanketed in white?

If I took photos of my commute, it would consist mainly of traffic jams in industrial areas.

Thanks for the photos. Its a great tour!

I don't have any right now, as I just started this commute in January and bought the Yaris in February. It is a very touchy drive once the snows come (and there is a lot of it each year, sometimes as much as 8 feet in a day), and when the snowplows pack a hard inch of snow on the roads, and the shoulders disappear. Of course, it's even worse when it's coming down faster than the plows can move it.

I was just getting into my groove and getting comfortable with driving it in the worst conditions when Spring hit its full potential and all the snow went away.

I promise to have some snowy shots of it this Winter.
