a & b pillar removal w/side curtain airbag

i would like to redo my interior in suede starting with the headlining and a & b pillars. except i have side curtain air bags. i'm worried about messing with them cuz i dont want them to go off. although i think i could take them off if i'm careful, i'm pretty positive they would put the sensors on inside of the pillar anyway. has anyone taken off their pillars that have the side air bags?

I have not disassembled my interior to the extent you plan to, however, the Toyota shop manual goes a looong way towards helping you keep your airbags stowed:
