205/50/15 vs. 205/55/15: pics?

So I know 205/55/15 is a correct "plus zero" sizing that offers a bunch of high-performance tire options. However, it seems many people opt for the 205/50/15 size instead. Why is that? Just for the look?

Anyone care to post up pics of their cars with either size tire for comparison's sake?

weight and a little less side wall, look in my garage

also you get 1/2 and inch of room to play with when lowering the vehicle, the 55's will give you a little more tucked look but the sidewall is a bit tall for my taste and they weigh more

I just wasn't sure if there was some inherent rubbing issues with the 55-series tires.

I think you would be totally fine with a 205/55/15 and a 2 inch drop with a
+40 or better offset

I agree; 205/55's should pose no rubbing problems at all (lowered or not) if you run AT LEAST a 40mm offset.

If you haven't dropped the car or don't plan to, then don't run 205/50's bcause they will look ridiculously tiny!

205 50 15 was 0.2% of my OEM size 14 inches

why get 205 55 when the 205 50 are perfectly made to fit there ! :thumbup:

well, the base does come with 14's and you are correct, you can get other packages with 15 inch stock steelies and that I guess is what other people are referring to as the standard

I agree 205/50/15 is going to look quite small on stock suspension, I am lowered 2.8 in front and 2.3 in the rear and I wouldn't want 205/55/15 on my car, no way, I'd be rubbing big time for sure in the front

I think that the difference would be 1/4 of an inch less gap if I am not mistaken.

ya, i'm just letting him know that it's gonna be a little more for a set of 55's and he might not find the brand he wants.

Well, I'd be getting Yokohama AVS ES100s. That's what I have on my Rays wheels right now and I love them. Tire Rack stocks them in the 55 series ($81 a tire); I'm sure America's Tire can get them, too.

Ultimately, I'd like to see a lowered Yaris liftback on 205/50/15s and 205/55/15s to see the visual difference.

Well, you have seen it lowered on 205/50/15. Now picture it with 1/2 inch less gap. Which do you prefer? More sidewall or less gap?

look at a yaris with 205/40/17 radias 11.7 this is a hair smaller than 205/55/15 radias 11.9, this should be easy to visulize, you will just have to imagine that fat sidewall
