Allow me to resurrect this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-Toyota-Yaris-Taillights-Tail-Lamps-Liftback-S-vitz_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33716QQihZ012QQite mZ220010283482QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Its supposedly removable. Might even work for the headlights.

I already use that kind of spray on my 2003 Sentra. It's pretty hard to apply but the result is not that bad. I don't think it may be remove. But BE CAREFULL. My best friend also use this spray on the same time on his old 90 VW Golf and maybe because the plastic of the taillights is old and dry, they all craked up everywhere. It cost two new taillights............... he never wanted to try the spray again! hehe.

Just an idea... don't know if it possible, but maybe just use use some standard window tint film? I assume the window film is self-adhesive, so why do use it to cover taillights?

 What the hell is that?!?

Actually you take some clear coat, add a few drops of black in, and spray until it's as dark as you like..... is that what you guys over there, call this process?

Yes but tinting tail lights is illegal in almost everywhere in Canada and in many states of USA! So you definitely need a removable tint solution... or keep a 500$ in safe place to buy some OE tail lights if needed.

I can get ticketed for a lot of things on all my vehicals, doesn't stop me from modding and making them my own though..

And NO, the changes/mods are not dangerous to other drivers, or myself.

It's probably depending of where you live, cause in the area I live, the first thing the cops are looking for is tinted taillights. Almost no body will take a change to tint thier taillights here. But most of other mods are tolerated.

Oh, dont get me wrong, its very illegal here to tint tails and headlights, as well as have any red or blue bulbs in the front of the car... doesnt stop the ricers from having those stupid led washer jets though.

Lol its just like normal spray paint. But its design to smoke your tailights. It goes on transparent, and keep coatin it until u get the darkness u want.

yup it is, the cops will give u SHIT about it.......though it aint a huge defect that you will get pulled over for.

But if you get pulled over for speeding, or a random breath test....they obviously will look at your car and charge u cuz its defected.

I know what you are talking about, I tried that YEARS ago, and it was shit. After a month or two, it started to wear away and looked like some cheap out of a can DIY job.

Mines going in the spray booth, getting done correctly.

Lol well i should give my tail light smoke can away....im not planning to smoke em anyway....its fuckin illigal here.......

And when i painted the inside of my headlights black.....THATS ILLIGAL TOO!! OMG............

and i was planning to make some parts red. Fuck australia sucks with their rules with cars.

Technically, Smoked taillights arent illegal, provided there is still a red reflector on the rear (solved on the old car by partially masking the reflector so it still reflected and wasn't smoked) and provided the light still has adequate output (old car had custom LED tails, i just turned up the duty cycle on the PWM for a bit extra running and braking brightness) And after being pulled over, I proved on the spot to the officer that my tails met all minimum DOT requirements, never got hassled for it again.

agreed with your opinion on the fucking AUSSIE RULES WITH CARS

however,i don't think they would pull over a YARIS on the street and get it defected...:smoking:

I went 150km/h on the street with my friends celica, they caught my friend and let me go, you get what i mean?they would rather get sports car pulled over and defected rather a little car man

HAHA THAT IS SO TRU!! lol.............i was doing 160 in a 90 zone!! and the cops pulled me over (hence i overtook the cops and i didnt see em) and they let me go for sum reason!!! lol....and my friend has a 350Z and he was doin 110 in a 90 zone and he got charged for it....

but then again, im very lucky not to get charged for it.

But i really want to spray my headlights red!! its unique but just scared of cops fuckin me up for it.

Ps how much did you pay for "sloowz?"

cuz im planning to get black number plates that just says BC22 (My initials and birthday) but i think thats gonna cost me 500 a year.

oscarying
08-24-2006, 07:45 PM
i just need to pay annual fee 60 (coz its white plate) and 30 ordering fee
thats it
as soon as u match the order of 3 letters, 3 numbers,or 2 letters 2 numbers 2 letters, or 2 letters 3-4 numbers,i think its ok

that sucks ass for me....cuz i just went to the rta website and create a plate "bc22" and thats 30 upfront fee, and 500 per year. Though if i put 2 more letters at the end. Eg. BC22PP it will cost me 30 upfront, and 160 per year. But i dont even have any other 2 letters thats significant to me.

So im just gonna recreate my plate to Silver Txt on black. 30 upfront, 100 per year.

where in sydney r u ?

Looks awesome! Are your back-up lights different then the US spec Yaris tail lights?? Is that what those little "not as dark" boxes are on the lower insides of the tails?

Where did you get your film and how much did it cost you?

I was just looking for these on the internet...but the cost is not really what I expected for a tint film.

Those "not as dark" boxes are the red reflectors required by USDOT to be unhindered, his film is probably cut so that the reflectors are still uncovered and operational, if you'll look at your tails you'll notice these little reflectors sitting right next to your back-up lights.

That's right, those block are the reflectors, but they are cover too. That's the effect of the camera flash. When you cover your lights with that film the reflectors and the lights still working very bright. I'am going to take the night pictures today and post it tomorrow. Sorry I'am out of my town. Next monday I'am going to call the guy that make me the work and ask him where did he buy the tint film. Ohhh ,I paid $15.00 each tail light, tint and work. I'ts not really easy to work with that film. It took him about 15 minutes each one and he works on window tint every day. Hey Chris I saw a white Yaris here in PR with with tint on headlights and tailights and it's looks really great... This one is from cardomain.com, but the guy is from PR.

YES! Looks awesome! You can get film for the headlights from headlightarmor.com, and they are supposedly coming out with film for the tail lights too as soon as they can find a car to work with. 65 bucks for the sedan, 70 for the liftback.

Smoked Glass bottle anyone? I was tryin out the niteshade paint and i notice that its a really really really dark maroon colour not black transparent.

Errr do i really have to remove the taillights and spray em? cant i just spray em while they are still on the car?...

Yaris_PR
08-27-2006, 01:23 AM
I think is better to remove them. I think I saw here a "How to" about remove tail lights. Maybe Chris can show you. But in my opinion, yes , is too dark, don't take the risk to loose your tail lights.

Chris07LB
08-27-2006, 09:08 AM
REMOVE THEM!

Inside the hatch, there are two small side vent looking pannels on each side, remove them.

You will now see the back of the tail lights.. this is how you would change the bulbs when needed.

Take a 10mm socket or box wrench, and remove the TWO nuts. Easy.

Take a tug back on the tail light, and it will slip right out. Disconnect plug, and its completely removed.

By the way nice car Yaris_PR...looks good with the wheels and smoked tails.

15$ each tail light is a good price...I would'nt pay 70$ for films without installation. I paid 150$ to get all my windows tinted on my hatch...so i'll try to call the same guy tommorow to see how much he would charge me for smoking the tails:cool:

Actually I called him today, he can't do it because he does'nt buy the kind of film that goes on lights. I'll try to find another place...if someone has an idea of one near Montreal tell me.

The spoiler is 372$ can, I got it from the dealer when I bought the car...they had to order it from Ontario.

Since I can't find any place where I can buy smoked film for taillights here, I've decided to contact Lamin-x.

The guy at Lamin-x, Chris, gave me good info on how to take the measurements. With these measurements he will then provide me with the best quote possible for an uncut/Bulk film that will fit correctly.

Here's a link where you can see a gallery of their products installed: http://www.lamin-x.com/showcase.php

What do you think I should go for?? Smoke or Charcoal (darker) ??

Hmmmm u willing to spend how many $$ of film when u can get the smoked spray can and some gloss paint for like $25.........thats what i did.....
+ there is no waiting of the right cut of film for the yaris...

im really happy with my outcome.....

casterqc

Well I would prefer the film because it can easily be removed.

At Lamin-x, Chris there can sell me two 20" x 15" sheets for $54.95 (normally $64.95) plus $6.95 for shipping.

I'll see what I'll do...I'm still looking at all the options avaible...then I'll decide.
