I am currently watching Krzysztof Kieslowski's THE DECALOGUE. This takes dedication; it is 10 1 hour films. He is one of my favorite directors. His stuff is great.
I am a film fanatic.
So what have you seen lately?

Transformers = Total awesomeness.
Pirates 3 = Awesome, but un-fulfilling ending
Rented "The Island" 2 nights ago, not bad. It's another Michael Bay, pre-shakey-camera technique.

We've been on a theater boycott since 1998, but rent movies often.
If you haven't seen "Pan's Labyrinth" yet I highly recommend it. It's subtitled (Spanish), and one of the best films we've seen in a long time.

Saw Transformaers last nite, took the kids and splurged. I was glad too, that movie was the best I'd seen in some time. Of course, I only go out to the movies about once every six months or so. Only complaint: that gaggle of giggling teenage girls running back and forth, all through the first 20 mins or so. One of them actually fell on the floor at one point: I got the attendant and he silenced them. Upon leaving, they mouthed off behind us, but by then I had the post-movie shock going on and really didn't care :w00t:

in the past 2 weeks i seen
transformers: it was ok. i wouldn't have cared for it if i wasn't such a big fan as a young kid. but nowhere near as good as i was hoping. acting was cheezy and the "transformation" from car/plane to robot left something to desire. wait for rental.
pan's labyrinth: great movie. good acting and storyline. a must see.
english substitles for all you non-spanish speakers!
big nothing: good comedy. the ending was not to my liking' but i would recomend it to anyone.
maria full of grace: a movie about humans being used a cocaine mules. what people go through and the life that it creates. good movie.
21 Grams: i have seen this movie about 4 times in the past year and it continues to get better. great acting by sean penn and benicio del toro. watch it.
and last amores perros: spanish movie with english subtitles. combining 4 different stories from one plot, if you can deal with the subtitles, it'll be worth the time.

I see a lot of movies in the theatre...my favs so far this year were:
Transformers
Shooter
Blades of Glory
Wild Hogs
300
Redline
Movies that I enjoyed, but not favs:
Pirates 3
Rise of Silver Surfer
Freedom Writers
Bridge To Terabithia
Ghost Rider
TMNT
Disturbia
Kickin' It Old School
Spider-man 3
Movies I was disappointed in:
Stomp the Yard
Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix
Hot Fuzz
28 Weeks Later
Shrek The Third
And that about wraps up the year so far for me :headbang:
There are of course older movies that i have seen, but too many to list....:eyebulge:

Dude, what on earth possessed you to watch TMNT?!?!?! Got kids?
Under no circumstances should anyone "wait for the rental" of Transformers. Action flicks lose half their appeal when you take them off the big screen.
Explosions need to be BIG.
And I thought the acting was great... fit the movie perfectly. C'mon, when dealing with giant alien robots, Shindler's List-quality acting doesn't quite fit.

The Queen
Both were well done, but didn't really trip my trigger. My co-worker is letting me borrow Blood Diamond and Last Kind of Scottland -- two movies I wanted to see.
I happend to buy Clerks 2 and Ferris Bueller's Day Off last night (two of my favorite movies).

pirates of the carribean 3 was absolutley awful, i couldn't even follow the damn story, i was at least hoping for the classic disney formula to come through with a watchable movie, but wasn't to be.
my daughter had been so excited to see this movie and ended up falling asleep during it.

Lets see...
I don't watch new movies too often, theres alot of classics I haven't seen yet that are much, much better than what comes out now.
Anyway:
Last night I finally watched Infernal Affairs. Well done movie, but I actually enjoyed The Departed more. Maybe if I hadn't seen the remake first...
I've got Derzu Uzala sitting at home. A late Akira Kurosawa movie.
Got stuck in the front row for Harry Potter 5. Decent adaptation of the source material - which wasn't that great to begin with.
Spider-Man 3 last week. Not as good as 1, which wasn't as good as 2. Too much stuff going on, but oddly too much character exposition - which already happened in the first 2 movies!
About a month ago I watched Sky High, the Japanese ghost movie, not the Disney movie ;) . Pretty good, but not as good as the directors other ghost movies (Versus and Akumi)

Yeah I have a 7 yr old son...TMNT was one of my favorite past lives...it was funny because my son loves the original TMNT movie from way back when....when we can home and then I was putting him to bed after seeing the new one he said, "dad, when are we going to go and see the real TMNT movie?"
I could not help but to laugh....I told him that most of the great movies have already come and gone...that there were only a few gems left to be discovered...movie quality is going downhill as the years go by....
As for Children of Men I was pretty disappointed actually...it seemed like one of those B rated "green" group movies...not what I was expecting at all. At least they had the strawberry smokes (I don't smoke though)...anyway...
28 Weeks later was ok, but in many ways very disappointing because of the ending....I won't go further to prevent spoilage...

if j-horror appeals to you at all I would highly suggest checking out some takashi miike stuff, however all of his movies are not really j-horror
visitor Q is amazing
I liked the ending of children of men I thought it was a perfect ending for the movie, I didn't really want to know what happened to each individual and see them living in some commune later on a cute little island or whatever, it was as bleak as the rest of the film and it left it up to you to in a way have your own pondering thoughts of that future

These poor inner-city families are living commune-style in this closed gated community in some Mexican city. They are about to celebrate this festival honoring the deceased relatives and the Saints. Someone drops one of the ceremonial statues, and they realize that the contents are pure gold. So, the families start battling over them, to cash them in for a better life. People start getting killed, and noone knows who has them... it's quite funny. Check it out. What are those you listed like?

i gotta get that santos peregrinos, sounds like a great flick.
the motorcycle diaries follows che guevara and his best friend while he was in his early twenties. they embark on a motorcycle trip througout south america, where he faces the injustices the poor have to endure to get by in life, while the big oil/mining corporation exploit the land/people while getting filthy rich. he was going to be a doctor but the trip made him change his future into the che we know today.
y tu mama tambien has 2 young teenagers coming of age with an older woman. they learn about life and love. i saw it last year so my memory is not the best, but i know is a good movie.

no, but it really is the coolest thing ever, I hate blockbuster and there is a great video store around the corner that has obscure stuff but they are behind the times and most of the good stuff is on video although they have some good dvd, browsing is a bitch and it's 4 bucks a rental and late fees and all that shit, irritations
I find it much easier to search for what I want using netflix and they have a very broad selection also I only spend 20. bucks a month and I watch a ton of movies, they basically send me one as fast as I can get them back
I am on the 3 at a time plan and I almost always have something to watch plus they have the watch now feature with a fairly good selection that continues to improve
I've watched 118 movies this year not including my instant watching stuff, DVR recordings, stuff I watch on Saturday night at my friend's place 'cuz that's movie night and a few I've seen in theaters

I pay 17.99 a month for all this. And I live in crazy commercial area.. so I think the only video rental stores around are... blockbuster and possibly hollywood video but I've never been to one myself.

What in your opinion is the WORST movie you've ever seen? I mean relative to how much it cost to make.

That's a really tough one because many of the movies I like would be considered bad but my tastes vary tremendously.
The Fountain-what a waste-it was pretty awful:barf:
This would be my choice as far as somewhat recent viewings go. I'll have to ponder it for a bit to come up with an all time WORST.

that super old movie? I have never seen the entire thing, no. I have been meaning to for a very long time.
as far as visual masterpieces go......
I did see Kenneth Anger Volume I
FIREWORKS, PUCE MOMENT, RABBIT'S MOON, EAUX D'ARTIFICE, and INAUGURATION OF THE PLEASURE DOME
I was wowed to say the least. AMAZING

...or movies with big symbolic clocks, actors wearing too much eyeliner, and who look like they are about to faint from the effort of showing intense emotion in a silent film!
Another really great silent film is The General by Buster Keaton as star and director, so funny you forget it was made 80 years ago.

Transformers - I guess the best word for it is exhilarating
Disturbia - starts off like a twisted teen comedy, ends up really really tense!
Evan Almighty - The idea is good, a few laughs, but not that great.
Are We Done Yet? - a decent sequel, funny yet sweet

well, I will say this for alpha dog, I think they tried to keep the story based on evidence and the real sequence of events so writing was limited, it is one of those "is what it is movies", nothing spectacular that's for sure

Nikki (Laura Dern) is a married actress who ends up in bed with her co-star (Justin Theroux), but is it an affair or just acting? When the two start calling each other by their characters' names, the faint line between fact and fiction gets even fuzzier in this David Lynch mystery. Jeremy Irons stars as Kingsley, the director of the film within the film who does little to help the characters -- or the audience -- distinguish reality from fantasy.
