I would do an aluminum radiator and a big 'ol fan before a thermostat.

Wanna run cooler, add redline waterwetter and/or run only 30% coolant to70% water. Remeber to go back to 50/50 coolant in winter if you dont want to crack your block in freezing temps! Water does a better job of heat transfer so your engine runs cooler only risk is your boiling point is also lowered! cheers!

From what Ive always understood its best to keep the engine within a narrow temp operating range. Older engines worked great with 180 degree thermostats because it kept them from detonating. Modern engines are now running into the 200+ degree range for emissions and economy reasons. If you drop the temp of our cars from 190 +/- to 160 wont that throw our ECU for a loop?
