has anyone considered doing or have done this swap?

Looking to see what swaps can be done and really looking to see what it would cost. I'm used to getting KA's for arouns $250 and under but knowing that this is a motor out of a newer car, I know its gonna be more.

I think the 2.4 out of the tC would be a tight fit. My guess would be the 1ZZ-FE (Corolla), 2ZZ-FE (Matrix, Celica), or the new (and not-even-in-the-US-quite-yet) 2ZR-FE (this will be in the xD, and is the motor found in the Yaris SR and Yaris T-Sport).

I would favor the 2zz-ge over the 2zz-fe, 180hp out of the box and a 6 speed man trans... and there are a lot of bolt ons for the 2zz-ge to get the HP#'s in the mid 200's easy

Yeah, I meant 2zz-ge. I wasn't aware there was a difference until now, actually!

2AZ-FE is too big, I'd vote for the 1ZZ-FE with TRD S/C or GT28RS. They have much more potential than the 2ZZ. Also the 4E-FTE or 4/5E-FTE Hybrid, would fit nicely & not weigh the front end down. Anyway you look at it, Yaris is too new a car to be swapping unless you're a Shop (or crazy loaded).

Here in PR (world capital of engine swaps haha  ) people are running Scion TC's 2.4L motor on Toyota Tercel.... the result is a very fast ugly car  but what the hell they are pulling 12 sec @ 1/4 mile on this things  and no Turbo or S/C.

Engine swaps are no problem for me (have tons of resources). I'm debating whether to think about something in the Yaris or continue to save up for a Lexus IS300 as the new project car and just save the Yaris to be the daily/possible show car. The weight of the car is what is making me debate.

So I'm taking no one has done a swap yet besides the RWD Tacoma Yaris at SEMA last year.

Word. You have plenty of awesome motors to choose from. No Holds Barred, I'd do a 3S-GTE AWD 6Speed full-on Cup+ Car (Yaris/Vitz Cup, Road Racing). I can't wait to see what you end up doing.

Celica GTS engine boosted would be ideal :)

That was the 2zz-ge that I mentioned earlier... and those engine turboed combined with the 6 speed manual trans sounds like fun

Page 14 of Siphon #3 mentioned that in 2008-ish europe was going to get a 130 hp variant of the yaris. Anybody know if they are refering to the 1ZZ-FE?

I ask because the 1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE share engine/trans mounting points, as well as over all size. A 1zz to 2zz swap "should" be pretty simple...

god 2008 is a long way away... expcially when there is no word that the 130 hp variant will ever make it to the US....

Probably not, they are probably referring to the 2ZR-FSE (xD motor)

They are indeed using that brand new engine in the Euripean Yaris TS/SR

They are indeed using that brand new engine in the Euripean Yaris TS/SRive been saying this in a few posts foe a while now, you will see this motor in a yaris by 2009. so far the xd shares not only the yaris ts/sr motor but the usdm TRD shocks and strut bar. its a good thing to be able to work for toyota/scion......

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it. Don't get me wrong -- I'd love it. However, the xD already will be a small hatch (on the Yaris platform already) with this engine. I'll keep my fingers crossed, though.

2ZZ-GE Boosted seems to be promising so far .. 180hp to the crank = boost sounds doable to me. As far as mounting points, how close are they?

Also, anyone know the roundabout cost of a used motor with low miles?

3k for one with about 20k miles, 2k for about 35k...check ebay motors.

Just found this, thought I would share...been up most of the night looking for decent priced motors.

4AGE- 165hp blacktop
$950- motor only, 50kish miles.

4AGE- Silvertop
$750- motor only. 50kish

Turbo 3SGTE (93 Celica)
$1350- motor/trans 5spd. 50kish

Turbo 3SGTE Engine/Trans JDM ST185 Swap
$1400 with ECU and Harnesses, Ready to work on.

Just within a couple hours I found these, kinda pricey, but could be made affordable, Would fit nicely in the older gen Echo though.

WTB Older gen Echo Hatch 2Dr !!!!

Once I get the fellas away from the crank shaft we are going to try and line up the mounts for a test fit.

i wouldnt run a 2zzge, the tranny is junk, its why i got rid of my XRS....ask anyone on 9thgencorolla or matrixowners.com....junk.

not totally sure a 2zz or 1zz would fit as i recall seeing someone try with an echo hatchback, but they had to cut the frame (check echodrivers.com or echo-bb.com)

though 2300lbs w/ a 1zz or the new 2zzfe (or whatever it is) would definitely be promising....

but its easier just to boost the 1nzfe

Oh that's too bad, I would have thought a 6-speed would be pretty decent... Would it be possible to use some other 5 (or 6)-speed tranny with the 2ZZ?

the 5speed from teh 1zz bolts up....'war' from newcelica built a turbo 2zz mr2 w/ a 5speed

but w/ the short powerband of a 2zz, you NEED the 6speed.....but its a peice of junk

better off to get a 1zz and turbo it, imo

or just turbo or s/c teh 1nzfe

1ZZ-FE is not a bad choice for Yaris.

But for keeping it pure Toyota, ultimate power, money no object, 2ZZ-GE most definitely is the route I would take.

Nearly every engine offering from any given manufacturer seems to go this way, larger displacement engine with superior cylinder head, but more costly to tune.

Drummerdawgmr-s

you say "but keeping it pure toyota" but the 2zz head is made by yamaha

also i have a mr2 spyder and the mother of swaps is the 2zz and i have never heard that the 6 spd is junk, only prob i have heard is of my friends 2zz celica and his 4th gr sycro is goin out/all ive heard

and about the 1zz/2zz the 1zz is my choice because it has potential for loads more tq then the 2zz would dream about, but the 2zz can pull alot more hp #'s and myself would like to have a fair balance of hp/tq so my plans for the spyder were goin to be a Rotrex build, seems most promising and reliable so far, and the guy that creates the kit for the mr2 only lives hours away from me
