Sorry if this issue may have been discussed before...

Is there some rule that we have to black out our licence plate numbers on this forum?

If so, why? And if not, then what's it all about anyway? What's the point? It just seems stupid to me!

no rule... it is some people's personal preferance to obscure them so that others do not get there plate #.... personally I do not care since hundreds of people see my plates daily while I drive

I can understand that some people are probably cautious with their personal information. The pictures that get posted up on here are not just available to us members. It's basically up for the whole world wide web to see. I don't think there are any crazies here that I know of but there are always ways to abuse knowledge of someone's information... even if it's just an e-mail address.

Is there a way to look people up by their plates? I thought only COPs could do that? :iono:

no, you can get an account with a site and get people's personal infofrmation I am sure there are other ways but I've never tried

for example:

you post pics of your car on here that show your plate number, someone like yaris t-sport makes a fake car domain account that includes racial remarks and what not and a whole new population has your plate number and maybe some maniac decides to hunt you down, I'm kinda glad I didn't post my plate numbers

Psh, I don't care. I show off my personalized plates all the time. If someone wanted to kill me they'd do it anyway.

Snootch.

I was misrepresented and that is all I'm saying and if my plates were displayed it would be an invite to a maniac killer. I may, in the future pics, choose to go ahead and display my plates but my whole point is when you post things like that on the internet you run some different risk than daily driving.

hey you run a risk just by posting pictures of your kids online. read a yahoo article about that once heh.

I think that's a little different. I wouldn't post public pics of my kids. If I had any.

It is just saying that anything put on the web is a risk really.

well, in other forums I've belonged to, many people were talking about racing, posted videos etc... they got tracked down by the police, who build a complete portfolio on them, with videos, pictures of them in there car, incl plate numbers, etc....

also local people can record your plate number and when they see a blue yaris (whatever colour) they can do a quick check of there records, and say "yep thats the blue yaris with the $5000 stereo"

and on a side note, if you have enemies, they can goto there local "connection "at the DMV and get your info from your plate, not just the cops have this access.

even business owners, small business owners even, can get this info by just requesting it and they can make up a BS excuse for why they're requesting it.
