im not a big stereo guy when it comes to cars... but i do want to change one thing... ive seen this on ebay

Ipod Interface w/text (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-TOYOTA-YARIS-DIRECT-iPOD-INPUT-AUX-w-TEXT_W0QQitemZ150142835872QQihZ005QQcategoryZ38636 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I really want something so i can control my ipod through the head unit
And was wondering if it was worth it and if i could do it myself?
Are there any other companies that make this kind of thing but with more reliability?

kewl .. but do you really want to spend that much money to see text on your head unit? personally i would spend that money on something else... to choose your own

This is a real easy DIY more often than not. I have not done it specifically with the Toyota head unit and ipod adapter, but I have done it with Alpine. They essentially hook up like you would a cd changer...plug and play basically. I am going to install my Alpine unit from from my old car and put it in the yaris, but I am debating where I want to put the docking cord. Like you said, I would go with an aftermarket unit...most of them now have them built in where you don't even need another part and you can still control it through the head unit. One piece of advice though, try before you buy. Although I love my alpine ipod interface...it is sooooo slow when trying to go deep into my ipod(about 12 Gigs of music), so I gotta setup a lot of playlists. But there are some that "claim" to be just like using the ipod themselves....

This module plus the dock connector cable together cost 240. But it recieves HD radio using the stock headunit and iPod thru dock connector. If you are going to dish out 150, might as well spend an extra 90 for HD Radio to justify the cost.

FYI, from what I have read, the people that worked on this were the team that worked on ICElink.

The same guys sell the Axxess iPod interface that's been stiring up a lot of talk on the Mazda3 forums. This is a completely different unit, but from what I've seen the seller is totally legit. Pretty nice guys too; it didn't take much to set up a group buy with them.
