A friend of mine which has 20 years of experience with carbon fiber asked if
there was a market in car parts. Long story short, I named a bunch of cars and parts that were of the typical scene.

Now I ask, what would you guys want in carbon fiber for your yaris??

Please give some imput so I can tell him what to make.

This is not a for sure thing, but if he sees a market he will start production.

Full Carbon Roof
carbon fenders
carbon hatch
carbon doors
full carbon Ings Kit
carbon trim replacement (cup holder trim, center console trim)
carbon hood (c-one style with cooling vent)

btw, how is ur friend getting the raw carbon materials?? they are in low supply everywhere.

He needs a market or group buy to make it worth it for him because the molds are so expensive, that's why I'm asking what people would want so I can have an idea of what could be mass produced.

If you want a 1-off product, I don't see the problem, but it will be expensive.

I myself would very much want some side fenders and maybe a back bumper, too.

I'm not even sure if this would be possible for a 2007 Yaris hatchback, though. As it stands though, the car could really use the help of some ground effects, it doesn't look too mean from the side...

Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks!

lol, engine isn't possible.

but panels and dash would be nice. Saw some carbon fiber wheels, that was cool.

One way to make your car faster is to make it lighter. A carbon fiber hatch, hood, and doors (in that order) would be cool. The doors would be last because of safety (side impact). I would recommend a roll bar or some kind of side impact bars if you have carbon fiber doors. I would imagine that the repalcement of those items are good for 50-70 lbs.

Y'know what's bad about carbon fiber? It's ugly.

Everyone wants everyone else to know they spent a ton of money on aftermarket body parts, so they leave it unpainted, and it looks like crap. Grey "burlap" is NOT attractive, I don't care how much lighter it might make the car. I see it like this:

1) Pretty car that does 0-60 in _______.

~or~

2) Ugly car that does 0-60 1.27 seconds faster and costs twice as much.

I'll go with door #1, thanks.

Just MHO, of course.

I'd limit my CF to Hood, Hatch, and F-1 Style Mirrors. Nothing too big, but enough to to make it stand out. "Taste in moderation" if you will.

I so like the way you think!

I think a lot of people don't know what to do with their money...like putting a 2000$ sound system in a 5000$ car, putting an aftermarket wing on top of the stock one, putting an exaust as big as your head that burns your rear bumper...lol. If it cost a lot...it doesn't mean it will absolutly look good!

Why spending that much money to look goofey when for 200$ you can have spinning hubcaps, neons, flames stickers, big muffler tips with leds, yellow seat covers with twity bird...all at Wal-Mart!:barf: ...lol

The main thing I would be interested in for this car would be the roof, it would give a lot of weight saving, and would lower the car's overall center of gravity... I would of course, have to paint it, because I don't really like the look of raw CF, it's tacky.

it will be great to have CF interior trims and dash parts, will make the car look sick.
external parts Hood, Front Lip, Rear Spoiler are the most command i think.
(at lease i am going to buy them)

stuff like CF fender roof door trunk is availiable for honda civics but how often u saw them, slim chance selling a bunch of them.

wow do we really need that much CF for this car?!?! I'd say if you want something then hood(even though the carbon piec will probably weigh more), trunk(carbon may weigh a little less), and mirrors(this is probably the only thing I would purchase.)

There is a company on Ebay that already sells dash trim kits for the 2nd gen Yaris sedans. They have a wide range of color choices, including black, grey AND blue carbon fiber (add 20% to the price for the last three). Here is a link.

I'd say a well done CF hood for our car with nolex honeycomb core and no more than 3 plys of CF, if the resin is set up correctly, would net maybe a 3 lb weight reduction... 5 lbs maximum, the stock hood FEELS to me to be about 15-20 lbs, I'm thinking a CF part of that size would probably somewhere from 11-17 lbs.

I know we talked about OEM hoods for both the 3LB and the 4dr. However being the LB in our position at the moment that'll be the first one made.. plus we have a deadline for sema ;) ... 4dr we will do. Anyone want to donate a hood? Completing this before next year shouldnt be a problem. I'll check with our R&D guys to see what they can do.

How do you guys make your hoods? Cuz with a hood this small, it's really hard to reduce the weight, and simple fiberglas with CF overlay probably isn't going to cut it. I'd like to see how you handle hinge and latch attatchment too, I'm kind of wary of some hood manufacturer's sketchy quality *cough*VIS and Seibon*cough*

The CF hood I have is nearly 5 pounds lighter than stock.
