Question I've had for a long time... look at chaikrab's tach.

6690

Do overseas Yarii actually rev to 8 grand or is there just 1500 RPM's of wasted tach? I've never seen a car top out right at redline.

Isn't the redline at 6.5?

I think my sedan buries at 8 grand. What about the liftbacks??? I also

thought 8 grand was unusual.

My LB is at 8 also, but I believe it is more for looks then anything else.

As kurokoma-kun it redlines at 6.5.

Try it! the rev limiter kicks in to save you from yourself

Don't all cars have a red line and then go past it on the tach? I know my last car went 1-2,000 RPM past the redline, and like kurokoma-kun said it wouldn't let me go over it.

Every car has 1500 to 2000 past redline on the tach, it looks cooler! There should be something called a rev limiter a few hundred after 6500 to stop you from dropping valves.

I think Chino was saying that its weird how they stopped at 8 grand but the line continues so it looks like it goes to like 9 grand.

What I was saying was that on any other manual car I've driven with a tach the revs didn't stop at redline. For example, my old Eclipse I believe redlined at 6,000 RPM and TOPPED OUT at 7,000. What the hell is with the Yaris redlining and limiting out at 6500 RPM?

hmmmmm......

... and the major question... can the 1NZ handle 8,000 RPM? Is the reason for the low revs due to engineering or an FE-geared setup?

Manual, automatic, that's how it's worked in every car I've driven with a tach. What's the point of showing the extra 1500 RPM if you can't use it?

You can if you remove rev limiter.

Has anyone seen the you tube videos of people showing off their exhaust and they just peg the needle and keep it there for a sec???

I wasn't gonna mention it--no doubt CC is out there attempting it now

Um, yea mine is the same I'm in Canada.

Look at the speedo, it does the same thing. You think a stock Yaris is gonna go 200K? I'm not so sure about that.
