I did a search, but didn't find a thread about this so if someone had made one before...well point me to it.
I am looking to get a good detector...any recommendations...I would like to have one that also informs you when EMS vehicles are near.
Thanks.

Radar detectors are bullshit. They really only work if the cop has the radar on all the time (like those little stations that show you how fast you are going and say "Your speed:"). 99% of police just "zap" people, meaning the radar is off most the time, making the detector useless. The only _chance_ the dectecor will help is if they are zapping a ton of people ahead of you.

Thanks for your two cents on this however not to be rude, but if I wanted "talking to about it" I would ask for that. I am asking for true advice on equipment...not supposed words of wisdom. I have to travel 185 miles one way to get to the airport for example and over 130 miles of that is just woods and highway. We don't have much traffic at all on the stretch....I might come across literally maybe 20 vehicles the entire way so safety for others is not an issue...when I come across them anyway I slow down. I mainly drive 10 miles an hour over the limit....nothing stupid. I am wanting to have one to be notified as well like I said about EMS warning as I feel that is a valuable component when in towns and cities. Like I said....no offense, it is just that people tend to put in their personal opinion not directly related to what someone asks and for many that is just frustrating...it doesn't truly answer the question at hand. Thanks. :w00t:

Valentine 1 all the way. OK its expensive but it really works. I've been doin 110 and 120 mph and as soon as it beeps You hit the brakes and it gives you time and saves you the Ticket. For me its worth all the money.

I have owned radar detectors for every year that i have been driving (about 19) Owned most brands, Uniden, Bel, Valentine, Whistler, Cobra..You really have to be alert while using it and be able to determine what is a B.S. signal and what is real, Example: Being a mile behind a cop that is driving with his radar on will have a constant weak signal and confuse the hell out of you. Now there are signs that set on the side of the road and run x-band radar that tells you how fast you are going just to f@ck with you! Not to mention that every detector that I have owned (All of them!) will pick up on C.B. radios and other radar detectors, Alarm systems, etc.. If you have to drive around this paranoid then you might as well drive close to the speed limit anyways or just be prepared to get a ticket, I guess the only reason I still own one is because i always have. They are good for potheads that are already going under the speed limit, This way they don't go by the cop burnin one at 15 mph looking suspicious as hell and get pulled over...Saved my ass quite a few times back in the day!

thoes are good points mr large balls you really do have to learn where these BS spots are. the passport 8500 has a feature where you can read up to 4 k band 2 x band and 2 ka band im my area most cops use ka but on the way to work there is a spot where both a single k and a single x go off so if i see more than one i slow down valentine only shows what direction i dont wanna know from whit side im gettin f***ked

i bought a cheap whistler xtr 550 ($55 shipped) a week ago. it has spared me of TWO TICKETS thus far. both times, on my cell phone, blipped, went to lap, and cop came around the corner. cell phone use is a traffic citation in NYS. as is window tinting in all but rear window. bastards.
i speed, but not much more than anyone else... i can't keep up with these people in the morning, but yes, it works then too. i seldom see a cop without a blip before eyesight, and then the ones that i don't detect are pointing in the wrong direction...
please. no cell phone lecturing. im more dangerous drinking a hot coffee than using a phone... and no accusations of disregarding law enforcement, as it's in my family and im trying to get into it. i just hate stupid laws.
but i like radar detectors!
besides. it's another gadget! fun!

Seems to me like you are in the market for a truly advanced radar detector; which is why I will suggest that you try the Radenso XP radar detector.
I won’t go into details on what this gadget can do, but you might want to check this out (https://www.radardetector-guides.net/radenso-xp-radar-detector-review/) (Radenso XP Radar Review).
You will not have any issue with most radar and laser guns the police are using out there. And don’t let its affordability fool you – this is hands down one of the best radar detectors in the market today.
