can someone in the know, look up the part numbers for the scion xb, the yaris, and the echo, to see if the alternators are the same part number...
I have been looking for a HO alternator, and they make them for the scion's including the xb, which shares the same engine...
thanks again

Call the Parts dept of your local Toyota Dealer & ask them for the part numbers for each. That will tell you.
BTW, are you looking at the Iraggi one??

I've searched many car audio sites and they recommend staying away from Iraggi...
I have found 1 place but they want $600 for a 180amp alternator...its a rewind...

Get a 2nd battery & a battery Isolator, you'll be fine.

Well, I'm new to this also, but have been reading, all site recommend you do the "big 3" which consists of upgrading the alternator to battery cable, engine block to car body, and the batteries ground cable to car body, larger the wire the better...
the route i am taking so far, is a 0 guage wire from the battery to the trunk, splitting to 2 4 gauge wires to my amps...
For now, i will probably use a 1 farad cap, but will upgrade to a high outpout alternator, and dual battery set up.

The problem you guys have at idle with dimming lights and weak batteries is because your OEM alternator does nothing at/near idle. Your alternator does not start charging until around 1200 rpm.
Your best bet might be to look for a reputable pulley builder. Such a company would be able to build you an Overdrive Alternator Pulley for your stock alternator. A properly built Overdrive Alternator Pulley would cause your OEM alternator to charge at a lower rpm (maybe 900rpm) and would save you time, hassle, and customization required to fit a different alternator.
Good luck gang!

thanks nonstoptuning i like that idea. has anyone found out what the rateing of the stock is yet and how much would it be safe to jump up with out having to rewire engine power. thats what i was originaly asking if i swap out my alternator what else do i have to change. im going to get a grounding kit and a 1 farad cap and try it but if an alternator swap is necessary i would like to know whats involved.
