Well, I've finally made up my mind for sure, and I don't think anyone can be more surprised about the final decision than I am!

For over a year now I've been looking at buying a Yaris. I was initially looking at Yaris vs. Accent, then recently moved on to a Yaris vs. Mini Cooper convertible comparison. For some unknown reason I found myself comparing the Mini Cooper to a convertible Mustang! Surprisingly, there is only $1000 or so difference between the two (depending on equipment).

So I went and test drove a V6 hardtop Mustang just to get a feel for it...... and fell head-over-heels. So much so that I decided I wasn't even interested in the convertible. The fastback retro design is just....just.... awesome. It helps that my wife despises "dumpy" cars (her words, not mine), so she's pushing for the Mustang as well. And my father-in-law can get me a family discount through the company he works for.

I really have debated it back and forth, and there's a nice long list of reasons I've decided to get the Mustang over the Mini Cooper, but I'm not gonna' go into detail because it's boring and I don't feel like typing that much. As for the Mustang vs. Yaris.... well.... the MPG may suck (really suck!) by comparison, but I'm not going to let my whole lifestyle be dictated by a gas pump.

So, the Vibe is officially up for sale, and as soon as it's gone, I'll be heading back to the local Ford dealership to find a nice GT. :headbang:

As for my presence on YarisWorld... I think I'll probably stick around. You guys seem much more fun to chit-chat with than the guys on Stangnet. Maybe I can be the official economy car emissary amongst the muscle car blockheads!

PS: When the deal finally goes down, I'll post some pics!

The rental mustang I had was a v-6 it hat supprising power for a v6 and it handled well. BUT it was very rough to ride in and the interior door panels were so cheap and the shifter was in the way of the ac controls. Not a bad choice but a ok car. That means a lot from me because I despise ford products after the ones I had fell apart.

Nah, I figure get a Yaris in 3 years when gas in $5 a gallon. Then it'd be worth it for sure!

I've read a LOT of online reviews from 2005+ Mustang owners. I feel pretty confident that should I have any issues, they'll be the same minor ones you get with any brand.

If nothing else, it'll still look awesome on the back of a flatbed wrecker.

Ha! Funny!

I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy another GM product... because so few of them ARE actually GM products. A company that tries to pass itself off as "all American" while pumping out a whole plethora of import vehicles just pisses me off.... it insults my intelligence. Sure Ford uses some Mazda stuff (the company that builds the Mazdaspeed 3 and the RX-8 can't be all bad!), but GM uses anyone they can get their hands on... Daewoo, Honda, Toyota, Opel... they're such brand whores.

Welcome to the Mustang world. I love these cars, more of a 5.0 guy, but they all kick ass. These cars actually get quicker when you spend money on them:

That's one quick 6cyl Musty-stang!

I drove a new style Mustang convertible in Naples Fla last year and it was kinda nice, but I got bored with it pretty quick. I kept the top down the whole time. I like the Yaris over the Mustang because it is cute, small, tossable and cheap to own, lasts forever. Holds 4 people and can haul a diswasher if needed.

Oh well, that's my $.02 worth.

Going on all the owner reviews I've read, pretty much on par with most other manufacturers. Some hiccups here and there, overall very satisfactory. The single biggest reason I decided against the Mini was the fact that the only dealer is well over an hour away from where I live (so any warranty work would be a pain, especially if the vehicle was immobile), and the servicing costs are astronomical. A friend of mine had one... he broke the antenna, and the dealership wanted $500 to replace it! He bought one from a junk yard for $20 and fixed it himself in 15 minutes. His auto tranny went out in just under 2 years as well, but a lot of that could be blamed on driving techniques. Who knows.
