i want to have my emblems and the chrome thing on my trunk (image below) powder coated. how much would something like that cost and how difficult would it be to get that chrome thing off? should i take it to a body shop and have them do it?

powercoat if for metal objects, not plastic...... the plastic would melt

you would be better off getting a quality paint job with a good clear coat

to achive the black chrome finish just grab some night shades, then clear over it

Check out a model shop for 'candy' paints. They're pretty much a colored clearcloat, so you can put it on and the color underneath with partially show through. Imagine it to be like the 'Nightshades' stuff, but in different colors like red or blue. I know Tamiya made the stuff in aerosol cans, and since it's really for models, you would probably want to lay some proper clearcoat over it to keep it from chipping/peeling. Good Luck and post up some pics after you do it!
