yaris rs rims and tires weigh in

At 33.5lbs... I measured two different tires and both came out the same.

I have the RS model hatchback (liftback) which come with some pretty lame 15" rims and bridgestone potenza re92's...

Overall though, I guess that's a pretty light setup, cuz I am just roughly estimating in my head for the konig heliums and some advan's would come out to about 29-30lbs. 11 for the konigs and 18-19 for the advans.... Not a huge weight savings by upgrading.

So I guess upgrading is gonna be primarily for looks.

What's the stock rim/tire for the other models weigh in at?

PS - the spare tire is 23lbs! :)

hmmm, no one cares? lol. I thought it was a big deal to change the rims to something lighter. Doesn't seem to me to be that big of a gain...

well thanks for the info, but there has been plenty of discussion in the past about this... the main thing to keep in mind is that we are talking about a rotating weight here, and the faster it rotates, the more effect a weight reduction will have. So, even if your new wheels are just 10% lighter, they'll be able to spin up and down faster in a larger percentage. but it's not an exact science since you also need to consider the rotation of all other parts of the drivetrain.

I dunno Indiansprinsaz... I searched these forums, my owners manual and google for that answer myself before I decided to remove a couple of my tires and weigh them on my digital scale.

Would only take someone 15 mins to grab their scale and do the same to the US stock setup to find out what it really weighs.

I actually weighed mine because people on this site are putting on 17" rims and they look good. But I see people saying "oh those rims are so lightweight and look so cool, you'll get a bigger contact patch cuz of the size and better responsiveness due to their lightweight" (paraphrased) and I thought... hmmm, 17"s would be cool. Then I check out how much even extremely expensive rims weigh and they are freakin heavy. Add in the rubber and a lot of those 17" wheels start to get stupid heavy.

For sure. But technically you've put on 1.2lb's rotating mass. I somehow doubt it makes a huge difference in performance but... you know we are all putting NST pulleys in our rides to try and save a few ounces rotating mass... maybe it makes a bigger difference up there then at the tires... I dunno honestly. I think having the weight basically on the crank would be more parasitic then on the tires, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea why really.

Of course, handling may be improved (re92's SUCK in the wet) and there is something to be said for cosmetic gains :)
