View Full Version : Trim/Dash Kit (for single DIN headunit) for Yaris yet?

I'm still holding off on the stereo upgrade mainly because I want to use a single DIN headunit.

But because there are no official dash kits for single DIN headunits for the 06/07 Yaris, I haven't been able to begin the stereo upgrades.

I've seen people use the Echo dash kit, but I understand that there are problems with it and require a bit of modification.

Any news from Toyota or OEM companies that manufacture dash kits?

Thanks for the pics/advice.

I've good news for those of us who are waiting an official fitted install kit.

Metra has informed me that an application is in development for the Yaris Hatch/Liftback and should be available in three to four weeks.

Good detective work there Violin. Not that the Jensen desk I have waiting is anything special, but I am going to wait for the proper kit to come out. Will have to call around to see if I can pre-order it from a local car audio place.

I would be willing to bet Metra will come out with both. Maybe at the same time.

Pixie - You want the Metra 95-8202.

I just got off the phone with these folks:
http://www.installer-data.com/aacars/car_data.php?carid=5534

They will have the single DIN kit (99-8216) in by the middle of next week. They're not cheap, but they'll have it before Crutchfield, etc.

They confirmed the wiring kit as the 70-1761.

hey with the metra kit, is the little trim piece that goes over the front of the unit supposed to fully go over deck? The black faceplate does not fit over the single din deck unit I bought and sits somewhat flush with the deck, this also means that the deck doesnt flip all the way out... anyone else have this happen to them?

do i have to push the trim piece up through the back of the unit towards the front?

Which metra kit did you use? The one for the Yaris is just now available for sale.

i used the one for the echo/celica...

it has nothing to do with the brackets, those are all set, it has to do with the opening that the radio is supposed to go through, it doesnt seem big enough and doesnt allow my radio to go all the way down...

I had the same problem when i installed my radio... So I cut the plastic behind the trim kit so the radio is stuck directly behind the trim kit...

what did you use to trim it? what did you trim? is it in the back of the front trim piece? Top or bottom or both? does that make sense? how does the whole kit stay in place if it fits in? wouldnt it go through the entire way?

I use the metra kit for Echo/Celica, sorry, i can't remember the part#...

I've cutted the back so the radio push directly on the back of the trim kit.

No it will not go through, it will stay in place, the dash and the radio will hold the trim kit in place.

you should slide your head unit through the trim kit, and back into the slide off harness that is around the outside of your headunit, does that make sence?

install the slide off part of the deck, install the trim kit, and slid the deck through both of the parts that are already mounted to the dash

I can slide my HU through the trim kit, it too small...

Anyone use that Metra kit Violin was talking about yet? 34 bones is a bit steep for a trim kit, but if its clean it might be worth it.

This is great however it is still a bummer if you own the Sport because you still have to buy the regular center dash housing so that you can replace the "integrated" H/U.

do you think they'll ever make a kit for the people with the green screen radio? i'd rather not have to buy the cheaper radio, just to be able to buy an aftermarket one in order for it to fit

johnnyfive

you dont need to buy the entire radio, just the trim piece that goes around it

see here (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19813&postcount=5)

i paid 67$ for mine from local dealership

the rest of the mounting hardware for your aftermarket radio is attached to your integrated unit

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that there is a kit made from American International www.americaninternational.net

The Part No. is TOY-K969
Applicable for ISO/DIN (single) radios on the following vehicles:
2006-07 Yaris Hatch / Sedan (of course!)
2007 FJ Cruiser
2004-2006 XA/XB/TC

It is a universal pocket that comes with vehicle specific brackets for each particular application.

I got mine for USD $16 shipped off eBay from a seller named autoware302.

Wish me luck, my install is going in tomorrow.

Heads up on that installer.com website that I linked to for the Metra kit.

Even though I was told that it would ship Wednesday when I ordered it a week ago Friday, they still haven't recieved it from Metra. I was willing to pay a premium to get it early. If they don't get it in by Tuesday, I'll cancel and go with Crutchfield or someone else.

Any Idea on when the wiring harness will be developed for the 07 yaris sedan?

bigsky2
08-28-2006, 04:43 PM
nick nick nick...

The wiring harness is a standard aftermarket Toyota harness.

Yes, I know you are concerned about the three plugs that come from your sedan, two whites and one blue right? Don't worry, only the two white plugs are used for aftermarket HU, and yes, the harness for the sedan AND liftback are the same.

Trust me, and anyone else who has installed an aftermarket HU on their Yaris.

Good luck.

My dash trim from installer.com shipped this morning.

I just spoke to them and they have two others in stock and three scheduled in tomorrow.

Crutchfield has none.

If you want one it's actually $24.95: http://www.installer-data.com/item/display_item.php?it=99-8216

The wiring harness again is the 70-1761.

That's about the right price for the Metra 99-8216.
And the harness 70-1761 WILL WORK for the Yaris Sedan + Hatchback
hint hint nick1983

If you guys want something cheaper ($8.99 + Shipping), check this one out:

It is made by American International, and has brackets for both the Yaris Hatchback and Sedan.

I got mine from this seller "autoware302" and I have installed it in my hatchback. Guaranteed to fit!

Hey guys,

Just a note regarding the Metra Kit 99-8216.

The dash kit also comes with the Toyota harness, so you won't have to find a harness if you order the Metra Kit.

I had a chance to look at both kits from Metra and American International, and they are pretty much identical. The din pocket and brackets are all made of ABS plastic.

FYI, I have the AI TOY-K969 kit installed in my hatchback.
