Curious if anyone else has had this problem.
I was waxing my car the other day, when my hand brushed the side turning light on the front quarter panel and the light popped off. Upon examination the plastic clip that holds it together was cracked and about to fall apart.
I am going to be taking it to the dealership in the next few days to get it replaced. Thankfully I am still under warranty.

One of mine broke off already... I'd never even gotten the chance to take it off and on. The first guy at the dealership accused me of dicking around with it and breaking it, so I talked to the manager, and showed him the broken plastic clip, and they covered it under warranty. Cost would've only been like $22 CDN otherwise.

Unless you played with it and broke it off in the process, it is definitely covered under warranty.

Nope just moving a towel over it, I will be extra gentle with it in the future. At least I am not the only one afflicted with this.

here is something for you to notice on our cars...all the black/plastic trim pieces, when you get a chance, go out and touch them...kinda push on them or move them side to side...you don't even have to force it just lightly shift the piece...this is the first car i've owned where trim and panels and the such are snugged down but still have play in them....no matter what you do...unless you get the insulation foam and stuff it up in the crevices....

most of the pieces i took off to pAINT was a couple of clips and some shitty double sided tape.....

It's a $12,000 car....Almost cost as much as the double-sided tape!

Well the price is good to know. I will probably just get the piece and forget the hassle of dealing with the dealership. Thanks for the info

Then if you want to change them to LED bulbs, or brighter halogens, follow my DIY on removing them and sealing them back up.

Your Toyota Service Manager should be able to take care of it quickly and hassle-free.

Yea, if he's nice enough to install it for free.
It's one plug to unclip once its off the fender..

Or you could go one step further, take out the light entirely, and then get a body shop to cover the hole for a clean look.

That's an idea, but the sidemarkers are very Japanese, as well as a significant safety feature.

No, Shroomster, I mean very Japanese... insofar as all Japanese cars in Japan have sidemarkers, but not all Japanese cars in the US have them!
Japanese cars in America are unfortunately very different than those in Japan... even the very few we've had in common over the years. The fact is that most of the Japanese cars in the US don't even exist in Japan.
The Yaris/Vitz is one of the few exceptions; it is sold in Japan and it landed in the States without being completely Americanized for our tasteless market.

Got mine replaced at the dealer...no questions asked.
Apparently they've seen it many times already, maybe there should be a recall.

Whats cracking it? Did they say it was a defect in the plastic or something?
Good to hear it was replaced without the normal Stealership issues.

ttufrosty, Chris07LB had a write up about this lamp awhile back; removal to change out/replace bulb etc. You should check it out. From what You explained, YOU May have cracked it when it got hit/moved. They come off by sliding them. So, You May have cracked it when you brushed up against it accidentially. But anyway, just thought I would mention the write up.
(Correct me if I'm wrong)
