well..my Yaris is not the best one out there,
but i would love to have a Yaris calendar on my wall...don't matter whos car.
maybe it's too early for asking this..but i think we should start preparing.
like each of you start making your own photo and send it to http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8040 ..
and then we all vote for which car for which month or something like that.
year 2008 should have it's own Yaris calendar!!

but you guys decide!

a calender would be nice!
mabye a good idea to make yarisworld merchandise
like a calender, t-shirts, coffee mug ,baseballcaps etc.
to sponser yarisworld. K27 makes nice designs, some profit for
him to
sherryberry
08-13-2007, 05:15 PM
yeah maybe we should have a special separate k27 calendar with all of his designs. I think he's made enough to fill up a calendar and then some already or can easily do so.

I'd be willing to print the calendars myself if this ever gets done. I wouldn't mind having my car's pic for the month of October (my birthday).

I say we submit pictures of your yaris to certain people and they can pick 12 of the best ones and those pic. will be printed for the year of 2008?
well it would make more sense if it was like member of the month page with the moderators being the council, seeing that they are fair and just, hell their rides can all be on january as a kickoff. but i wouldnt mind a yw tshirt. i'll rock it at shows.

I wonder if like in the begining of the calender like the inside cover sleeves and back sleeves you can have a bunch of boxes, small with pictures of all or most of the members rides. If that makes sense? So we would have members rides on the front back cover and the back cover inside? I think either have a simple illustration of the Yarisworld on the front and back or have a really cool Yaris picture, and yes of both sedan and hatch.
I don't know, just a segestion.

Could we possibly get our supporting vendors to kick in a little for ad space on the inside cover? this would generate some intial cash to start the printing process,ie funding layout work. Selection of the calendar cars could be selected by user ratings of each submitted pic. ie: a scale of 1-5 . We should probably be looking at setting a deadline for entries and voting. Hey Mod's want to set some guide lines? I think seanele has made some awesome suggetions. This could generate extra site support. Could there possibly be a way to set up a site store?
k27's stuff is pretty cool and would make for some neat products to start with and I'm sure k27 would appreciate a little royalty action.

Sherry, if you have the best photo for the Yaris..and people vote for it,
then it will not be a problem with or without mods at all.
my suggestion is..
take a picture next to waterfall maybe, or next to a running river...or anything that will make people give you their vote.
who knows you'll make it. if not, well maybe next year.

I really like the idea, we can probably get something done for 2008... I'd say a desk calendar (those triangular based ones), they look professional, should not be too expensive, and you can have two sides, one with a full picture, the other side with the calendar space and a couple of small pics.
I think what we need now is for everyone now to try and take or find the nicest picture they have of their car and post it here. It will help of course if you have the original picture in high resolution and good quality, camera phone pics would not be eligible  This is because, a picture might look really good on a computer screen, but if it's too small, it'll look like crap printed. Heck, I'm sure pretty much everyone here would have a friend who's got a good camera, bribe them with a beer or something to go out and take some nice pics of your car!
Then, we'll have to implement a voting system for everyone to pick out the 12 best pictures to be showcased.
I don't know if we really need girls to pose with the cars, though, as nice as it would be, it seems a little tacky, we want peoples' attention on the cars, after all!
Sponsors would be most welcome as well, even though these probably won't be so expensive to make, it would be good to be able to get them extra cheap.
So, if anyone's got any contacts with print shops or similar, please ask them if they can make these, and if so, what's their price and quantity requirements.

Since we have some artists here, I think it would be nice to do a separate vote for a cover design.
I know you can have custom calendars made at Kinko's, the kind with a large picture on top and dates below--all you need is your 12 pictures. They may even do the mailing if we give them a list.

I work at a print shop as a designer and the desk calendar idea would be more than say a wall calendar because of the binding. Stitching (or stapling) would be a lot cheaper. Some of the things that effect pricing is what kind of paper (& how much), how it is bound, color, holes drilled, whether there is a bleed or not (where the color runs off the page), and quantity. I think maybe using some 11.5x17.5 paper, cutting it down to 11x17 with a bleed, and folding it in half would be the cheaper way to go. If someone else wants to design it or I can, preferably with something from Adobe like InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator, I can easily get it printed for cost of materials. I think a 100# glossy book paper would work great for this. We do calenders all the time. They could be coil bound, but that adds to the cost quite a bit.
Im not sure this is covered yet but in high school our cover for the yearbook but a bunch of small pics put in a way to make a larger pic...i forogt what its call but i think u know what i mean....maybe we can get a crapload of our yaris' in different locations and background colors and make up the word yaris or sumthin.....or maybe im babbling

A SUPER good idea for the cover I think. I have tried some software out there that does that, but nothing I have found works too well... Anyone know of some software that actually works? I know the picture turns out better with more pictures...
EDIT: Found some decent software with a 30 day trial. Only thing is I'm going to need a LOT of pictures. I'll start gathering!

hhmm...we should create a design team for this.

ok i think we need this first.......... a commitee to do screening to pick the final 24 ( or whatever number) pictures for us, YW member to vote by a date.
The 24 pictures will be posted here for member to vote for the final 12 and finally the cover picture.
Commitee then submit those photos to the person thats going to send it off to the printing company
And the clock is ticking... altho. its just the end of August, but in order to have all the photos submitted, screened and time for us to vote and find a nice company to print and submit it to them and have them all printed and ready for 2008 requires a lot of time and work
