Anyone run 13's on the Yaris? I know many autocrossers and drag racers run them on other smaller and old skool cars but was wondering if anyone has pics on the Yaris...

Looking at a set of these in white:

http://www.revlimiter.net/miata/images/wheels_lenso.jpg

Lenso VPD 13x7.5 +25 (9lbs each)

they're pretty played out in the Honda/Import drag scene but I think they'd look pretty decent on the Yaris with some 205/60/13 Toyo RA1's

Or I could always snag a used set of old skool 13" Panasports or Wat's

wow..it's hard to believe that is 13. looks bigger..

get some 15" volks that weigh 9 lbs. it'll cost you more $ but you'll save weight on the tire and have quicker response with turns. i'd totally rock 13's if the weight savings was a little more significant.

Well I picked them up tonight

They weigh in at 8.5lbs on my fed ex scale. Tires are on order, those should come in under 18lbs each so I will be saving a couple of pounds over my magnesium 15's as well as moving the weight inboard.

In all honesty I picked these up for the look more than anything else... I just had to see how they look on the car  And I like the fact that I now have a set of each: 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 wheels for the car

You can't beat the cost effectiveness of 13" racing tires and these wheels. For anyone considering a second set of wheels and tires for track these should be at the top of your list for under $600 total including tires :w00t:

I'll hopefully have some pics up on Tue/Wed when the tires arrive. Didn't take any pics tonight when I test fit them, but the clearance to the brakes, coilover and fender are all pretty tight.... as close as you can get to perfect fittment without any hassles (I hope  ).

hell ya! looks like i might not have to shell out for 14" volks... depending on how these look in your pics =) and you are absolutely right about the price. congrats!

what size tires did you get? do you think they'll clear everything steering lock to lock? 7.5 is fat!!! hopefully it does. that would be so sweet.

Tire showed up, didn't get too many great pics since it's already dark out and the car is filthy. I probably haven't posted any pics for a while... car has the Seibon VSII hood and JDM non-RS rear bumper installed. JDM front bumper, aeroover lip kit and carbon hatch are at the paint shop already. It's getting ready to go for paint really soon and won't be white much longer.

The wheels fit great, no rubbing at all! They look pretty tiny, and definitely change the look of the car. I should really go lower for looks but the car won't clear any speed bumps as it is right now. Handling feels great, acceleration is a little quicker also. One thing to watch out for is the front brake clearance is tight and you can't run any of the thicker 1/2 oz. sticker weights directly above the caliper on the front wheels or it will touch, luckily the wheels didn't need much weight at all to balance and I was able to use the skinnier style 1/4 oz. weights which clear fine.

i got white since i'm on black wheels right now... otherwise i would've went with black. so you already know what it'll look like haha.

i'm going to run 205-60-13. i only found a few tires that were in stock... really cheap shit like federals and nankangs or really expensive shit like the ra1's you got. no in between! i think i'm getting cooper cobras because of a hook up. i can't run ra1's on the street because i don't have tire warmers and i don't plan on taking 70 mph right-handers on the street hahaha.

Tire Rack have the Sumitomo HTR 200 which is a decent street tire in 205/60/13 for $45 plus shipping.

The overall diameter is approximately 1/2" shorter than the stock 14" wheel and tire combo with my particular tire sizing. Your car will lower by 1/4" and your fender gap will increase by 1/4". I prefer the lower stance and the slightly shorter gearing since it helps with acceleration. The stock gearing is very tall IMO on the Yaris, which is great for fuel economy but can be improved on for performance.

The wheel offset is +25 and it's a 13x7.5

Trust me -- if I had the cash now, I'd buy them at your "store."

They only thing I'd worry about is sidewall flex. With a nice, sticky, street tire, the sidewalls are still pretty stiff. On the currently available 205-60-13s, I'm afraid they're not high performance enough (minus the R compounds) for my liking. I've got Yokohama AVS ES100s in a 205-50-16 now and they're great. I don't mind our 205-50-15 Falken Ziex 15s either.

BTW, they don't seem to make the G/T Qualifier in that size anymore. http://dunloptires.com/dunlop/display_tire.jsp?prodline=G/T+Qualifier&mrktarea=Performance

EDIT: Falken Ziex 502 in 205-60-13. I wonder if they're available in the US?:

for the cooper cobras, the sidewall flex isn't much of an issue compared to the stickiness... or lack of stickiness. these tires weren't meant for anything but getting groceries. i wonder what's less sticky, these cobras or cold ra1's.

i saw those 502's also but i couldn't find them online.

Handling is really nice with the RA1's and for me they are cheap enough and last long enough to use daily. If I was going to track these I'd probably get some Hoosiers or Kumho R-Compounds or some Yokohama race slicks. The nice thing about 13's is you can always find slightly used race tires for cheap since a lot of the pro racers and autocrossers run this sizing and they change tires after every few track days.

I wouldn't really call those "race tires" most people running A048 are using them up on street/weekend track cars or using them as rain tires for amateur races. If you hangout at the track enough or at the race prep shops your bound to come up with some barely used slicks off some formula cars... I'll let you know next time I find a set

While they might not be race tires, they probably wouldn't be a good choice for me since it's like 50 degrees here in the mornings durring the summer and in the fall, it only gets into the upper 50s. I simply wish Yokohama made the AVS ES100s in that size. Then again, if I could sell my Rays wheels, I might still pick up a set with the Coopers or the Sumitomos. As I mentioned, my Cooper Cobra GTs were a decent daily driver tire.

Not at all. But the RA1s have an Operating Temperature range from 140°F to 220°F, optimum around 200°F. This means you have to get them pretty warm to have any good grip. I want tires that are going to handle well without having to warm them up. For me, RA1s are not great daily driver tires. Yet, the Cooper Cobras don't provide enough grip for the occational autocross or "spirited driving" run.

Imagine
08-29-2007, 03:34 PM
I guess that's probably why most people have spare wheels for AutoX. It's hard to find a good mix of long lasting/sporty tires.

Thirty-Nine
08-29-2007, 04:12 PM
I don't know if I'd say most people have take-offs for autocross. I think it's fair to say some people do, especially people that are really into it. I'm not a hard-core autocrosser, though. I do like to take my daily driver around the track a few times, but don't want to invest the money into dedicated wheels and tires, which is why I look for a good balence. Plus, i don't want to run "marshmellows" on the street, either. I want something that'll be okay for everyday use and spirited driving plus the occational autocross. I'm rambling.

I will say this: Cooper Cobra G/Ts are by far NOT the worst tire I've ever owned. Ditto with Sumitomos (granted, I had the HTRZII which was a z-rated compound, and not an all-season tire).

Sorry, not that I've seen. I do have pics of Compomotives 13x9 on my car (with race rubber), and I have a set of V2's (13x8) in stock.

they are about $155 each. Matte or Satin black is closer, is has a little bit of shine in it.
