Lightweight batteries anyone?

Anybody have a lightweight battery in their Yaris?

I figure a lightweight drycell in the trunk will help out a bit with weight distribution/reduction quite nicely.

I figure the motor being a 1.5 shouldn't require mountains of juice to turn over.

Braille's All-season joint (15lbs) should take a fair amount of weight off the car, and putting it in the trunk should help balance things out a bit.

03Z33 has an odyssey in the stock location. i think he saved about 20 lbs. i was going to do a relocation but the added weight of 1/0 cable, distribution block, battery mount, etc, would counteract the weight loss of a lightweight battery.

i think a race battery in the stock location is the best solution.

Still, moving a large mass to the rear, and alleviating the front end altogether doesn't seem like a bad proposition.

true, if what you're after is weight distribution. even then, you are moving only 13 lbs (lightweight battery weight) to the rear and distributing the added weight of the cables over the length of the car. this would make more sense if you are moving a stock battery (33 lbs iirc?) from front to rear.

if it is weight savings you want, then just replacing the battery with a race battery is the way to go imo.

I'm all for adding lightness, and balance in whatever quantities I can. If that means removing 30lbs from the front of the car, adding 15lbs to the back, and maybe 1-2lbs over the length of the car, that works for me ;)

Factoring in the weight of the cables is glaringly good point I never thought of in nearly 7 years of modding cars :thumbsup:

What do y'all think about Optima batteries. They claim to be light weight.

I always though Optimas were basically just spillproof.

Lightweight? No way! Quite heavy. The only advantage to these batteries is their resistance to spilling (gel contents), vibration resistance (spiral core), and of course the ability to use inside the cabin, as they have no breathable emissions. It is a totally sealed unit. So, the offroad 4x4 guys and the racing guys love these. As far as lightweight, never heard that quality.

I suppose we could just get a hand-crank like in the roaring 20's :laugh:

and maybe 1-2lbs over the length of the car, that works for me ;)

if you use 1/0 welding cable as your power line, 10 feet of it is going to weigh more than two lbs i think. but if you do the relocation, post pics! i did one in my prerunner but opted not to in the yaris. good luck!

does any think a goldwing battery would work. The engines bigger but battery must be smaller.
