if you're pulled over and say you have a system like the pioneer avic-d3, but it's turned off...will the officer make you turn it on to prove that you don't have the bypass to play movies while driving? i didn't think they'd go that far but i saw someone comment on it in another forum so i was wondering

i have a panasonic flip screen in my MR-S and they never made me turn it on or anything, but usually when i got pulled over i would put the screen up so the officer wouldnt see it, or it was dark and with the car off they couldnt see it either...lol
but yea i have never had a problem

I have heard that they will make you show them that it works "properly". I have not been pulled over for it, but I have been pulled over while having it and the cop never said anything.

i guess they can't really prove anything if i don't have a dvd in there for them to see...unless the cops are now armed with sample dvds for this purpose :-o lol

is it sample porn dvds? jk jk. I think like everything else, it is all going to depend on the cop.

hahaha I can imagine a scenario, cop gets you to test the DVD player, then says "hey, that looks like a fun movie, mind if I sit in for a while and watch?"

I used to have the all-clear taillights in my Neon, with red bulbs. I worked a night shift, and on my way home one night, this small-town cop stopped me and told me my tails were "not the right shade of red". He then told me I need yellow turn signals (Neons are all red, period!). So, when I began to get snippy, he told me he didn't really know cars very well, and just kinda got in his car and let me go. Such idiocy!
I was hoping to be able to contest on the grounds that he may be colorblind :bellyroll:

All you need is a switch to flip so that it meeds the standard. Get pulled, flip the switch.
If I did it, I would actually do it the proper way because I wouldn't want my passengers to beg me to watch a movie while driving and get my ass in an accident because I was glancing at the movie too much. I do this now with my Navi in my Odyssey. The new Navis dont let you type while driving, or at least that's what I've heard.

Ya, your right, quite a few now wont let you do anything until your completely stopped.

yep its very true....i know the new pioneer avic-z2 has a sort of gyro that measures how fast your car is going, #1 it displays your speed on the headunit but also notifies the unit that if your going faster than 5mph or whatever it is, to turn off the dvd.
ive heard there is ways around this, but its just not as cheap nor simple as a flip of a switch...
what's to stop you from saying oh officer, mine doesn't work with the parking brake, it will show movies unless I am in gear. or it will show movies unless I am moving (speed gyro or VSS-vehicle speed sensor connection)
Is the cop really going to ask you to turn it on?
I think they have better things to do.
Now if they see it on while driving past you, that's another story, but even then I don't think they'll bother you.
I often see vans or large cars tailgating me trying to see what I'm watching.

No, what's more dangerous is driving while watching in your own car. I don't have a problem with merely typing in an address into Nav, but watching a movie requires a lot of attention.
Don't give me the old line, "yeah, but I've seen this movie so many times already," either.
please stay safe.

no i haven't but i don't find that funny. i just find him moronic. He could have put a lot more people's lives at risk and that's not a funny thing to me.

how would that work? if he pulled you over for that how could he tell if is working under legal circumstances...he'd ahve to get in teh car with you adn have you drive and see if your tv/dvd player turns on. I doubt he would do that too because he wouldn't just leave his car unattended.

i think it's just based on if it works without the parking brake being used

unless he finds watching it educational then he would've had to be doing something else while driving too...some people have too much time on their hands lol

I've got a full surround DVD system in my car. But I have it installed "by the book" so you can't see the DVD play unless the e-brake is on. My Panasonic deck lets you play DVDs while driving, but it cuts the video. So, if I wanted to, I could play some of my music DVDs.
I like driving somewhere at night with a coffee and a bag of chips just to watch a movie in the car.

nah.
sometimes I'll set cruise control for a couple mph under the speed limit just to teach them a lesson. eventually they'll honk wildly and swerve around me.
the other times I'll tap my brakes just to "make sure they work"

There are enough distractions on the road.
