The people who wrote the book made the car. I personally trust them over some renegade mechanic.

But why even have a forum if everyone is just supposed to google everything themselves? Isn't the purpose of a forum for like-minded people to discuss things, not just to independently google everything?

I did not recommend him to Google.... I said Got search? There is this neet little function at the top of the screen that says search, where you can search the forum to see if anyone has come upon the same topic or probem b4

At the dealership they told me baby it for 500 miles and change the oil at 5000 like normal, but being used to breaking in older cars; I went easy on it for 1000 miles, then changed the oil, then did another easy thousand before switching to synthetic oil. But I'm weird like that.

I did not follow any break in schedual..... I beet on her from day one.... and threw Full Synth oil in the motor as soon as I could... I think it was at like 800 miles or so, and at 5k, 10k & 15k... changed the trans fluid over to full synth at 15k and still romp on her pretty hard, and as I found out driving to Chino's yesterday I am getting MUCH better gas mileage than I was b4, used to take me a full tank of gas to get to his house and back (I mean the last bar was blinking for 20 miles or so) This time I did a bunch of extra driving while I was out there, and came back with a full 1/4 tank.... so I say screw braking a car in... I say drive it like you are going to drive it from day one

I guess I just drove it easy for the first day, then drove normally. I put synthetic in at 3K miles.

I am driving mine easy, babying it, until 1,000 miles, at which point I shall put full synthetic oil in it. I currently have 800 miles.

Just drive it normally and follow the book maintenance recommendations. It'll be fine.

The way i would've broke my car in on its first miles, for the first 750miles dont keep at a steady speed like on the highway constantly accelerate and such, and dont go above 3,000rpms, after you hit 750miles do the first oil change, now the next 750 miles same idea but dont go above 4500 rpm's and when you hit 1500 miles total do a final oil change and then next oil change is what ever interval you follow every 3-5k miles.
my next new car im doing this, i didn't with my yaris first car haha, but i would do an oil change right when i get home and go synthetic, but thats just me everyone has their opinions :)

Before I accepted delivery, I took it for a test-drive and give it a couple hard pulls from 20-60 going around a round-about. In effect, the abbreviated version of Moto's break-in method. Switched to Amsoil at 1500 miles, haven't looked back. Car still purrs at 70k miles now, no issues.
