This just may be what is wrong:

My A/C blower suddenly started making a loud noise some time back. It turned out some paper (gas receipts) from the glove box got sucked into the unit.

The design of the glove box, the position of the blower, and the fact that there is no filter over the blower unit make this a real problem.

I stopped storing anything in the glove box that could get sucked into the blower unit.

And now, I have an A/C filter installed (thanks to info I found on this website), so that couldn't possibly happen again.

Happy I was able to help with your problem.

Now, do yourself a favour and get an A/C cabin filter.

You can buy a Purolator #C38188 (about $10) from an auto parts store .

Remove the glovebox (that takes about 2 seconds) and gently twist the filter just a little so it will fit into the blower unit and sit flat. Then reinstall the glovebox and you're done.

BTW, the Purolator filter fits in "as is" right out of the box... no need for trimming or anything like that.

Yes,the either home made or Toyota bought filter is a must.
