Anyone else notice that there's kinda of an 'extra' gear ration between 3rd and 4th on the auto trans? I've found that when I'm cruising in 4th at say 60kph (35mph?) and apply a little more gas, the revs surge up, like as it would when it kicks-down into 3rd, but it hasn't. At 60kph/35mph, the revs would be around 1900rpm in 4th, and when this happens, it feels like a downshift (car kinda jerks like when shifting) and revs go to abour 2500rpm. The thing is, apply more gas as it DOES kickdown into third. I was kinda thinking it may be a locking torque converter engaging and disengaging to prevent power loss, but I have no ideas...

Anyone?

Torque converter unlocking/locking is your "extra" gear. It's not a new feature. All A/T have this since I can remember. (maybe not the old 70's 3 speed A/T box).
