Has anyone noticed the throddle response lags a bit or is it just me?

Aren't these cars Drive-By-Wire? That would explain the throttle lag.
Frankly, I don't feel any lag. May be the electrically controlled throttle can be adjusted by the dealership.

I have a 5spd. The most recent cars I drive are 2002 WRX, 05 Mini Copper-S (wife's) and a 05 STI (son's). They are all M/T and the response of the throddle is snappy. When you snap the gas pedal down there is a couple of split seconds before it responds. It may be a qurik of the yaris.

I have the sedan A/T and haven't noticed any lag whatsoever. I think it's a littie snappy, but I don't mash the throttle either.

I thought it was me and it might still be but on my LB 5 speed it seems that on a dead stop take off it's alittle hard to feel the first bit of throtle push somethimes. I always like to take off with as little throtle as posible to keep from wearing the clutch and on the Yaris it never seems to feel the same, I am getting use to it but I really think that it does have a tiny bit of lag.

I have an AT and there is a little lag but all my previous AT cars also had the lag. You really have to be careful merging onto interstates with cars going 75 plus mph, it takes a little time for the Yaris to get "up to speed"....

Thats crazy, as there have been lots of complaints about the Subaru STIs (all years) and Imprezas in 06. The Drive-By-Wire has huge lag. Thats if you know how to rev match and heel-toe, it makes it impossible to do smoothly.

I think automactics by nature especially ones in this class are going to have "lag." It just a matter of mechanics and gearing and its an automactic, although they changing...

Yea it is.

No, I don't notice any lag. But you really have to push the car into high revs to get the right shift point for quick acceleration.

Yeah... you have to plan your heel-toes WAAY earlier with throttle by wire... kinda sucks, makes me miss my aw11.

Hey try this with your yaris. With your trans is in netural and the engine runing stab the gas to the floor and release as quicly as possible, nothing will happen. Then you will know what I am talking about.

mine seems to be alot more responsive when i'm driving than when in neutral.... i don't know why

I have just tried it out. I do have had some response from the engine. So "nothing will happen" does not apply to my car. However, it is true that the engine needed a short while to really rev up. But note: just a very short while.

I have, in the last few days, really become aware of a heavy throttle lag. When I really hit the gas yesterday to avoid being creamed by another car there was a nervous moment when NOTHING happened and then the car finally took off. Today I tested the throttle response and found that a quick jab to the peddle will result in a fairly long lag. I don't know if this is by design or a design flaw but it's the first thing about the car that really blows. Not getting the gas when you need it is dangerous.

Me too.You know, in order to produce some result out of this thread, let's do this test.
In neutral(whether you have auto/manual transmission) press quickly the gas pedal to the end(until it reaches the ground) and release it immediately.Watch the revs and post them here.
I did that and it reaches simultaneously 2500rpm, which is very good, if we take into consideration that the gas is electric.
5spd manual, i feel lag...

About 2,800 rpm:smile:.

the throttle lag and pedal placement make it impossible for me to properly heal-teo it. pisses me off, i've allways heal-toed my cars but i just can't on this one.
yea, i find that the gas pedal comes out a bit more than the brake pedal on my car making it awkward to heal toe too
I stopped doing heal-toe on the streets since my old CRX (I've tamed down a bit from those days of old). But rev matching is second nature to me. And the thruttle responce on the manual makes it difficult to be smooth. I think most of the problem could be solved if the accelerator was a little more responsive when punching it in neutral (in order to match the Revs when downshifting).
I'll punch the accelerator at the same time as I go down on the clutch, but I do it so quickly, that the revs are just starting to climb by the time I'm already off the clutch and in gear. Which kinda sucks, cause since the Rev's aren't matching, the clutch and the syncro are taking the load and getting abused. If only the accelerator was able to do it's job...:frown:
I did 300,000km on my old Manual Civic and sold it with the original clutch which was still going strong (syncro's were also in great condition). At the rate I'm going now, If I don't get the accelerator to respond more quickly (or slow things down...which is not an option), my Yaris's tranny wont last.

That's strange cause in mine the brake pedal comes out a bit more than the gas pedal!
hehe, if my gas comes out more, does that mean i get go faster?? LOL jkjkjk...

The throddle respones makes it difficult for me to do heel toe and other performance driving techniques. It also mess me up when I get back in my subaru. I no longer do this kind of driving.:frown: I go for mileage. If I want to really burn some fuel (15-18 mpg) I will drive my subaru.

Well. Today I drive my mom's brand new Matrix XR for a pretty long ride and I assume it was also "drive-by-wire" because the gas pedal is very "slutchy", unprecise and it have lag. I really dislike the feeling of the gas pedal cause there's no feeling of the engine throught the gas pedal and the throttle response is slow.
