Help me install my Infinity Basslink!

I just recently purchased my Inifinity Basslink off amazon for $200 and it should be getting it early next week. I talked to a guy at Best Buy and kinda got the details on how to hook it up, but after trying to install my old bazooka tube in a friends truck and failing miserably, I am not so confident in myself anymore. I do not want to pay Best Buy to do it though. I bought an adapter that converts the speaker wire output into RCA that I can run back to the sub.

I know there is going to be a ground wire... if I'm putting it behind the back seats in my hatchback where is the best place to put that? Anywhere metal?? ( like under the spare tire maybe?)

I know there is going to be a power wire and I'll connect that too the battery.

The bazooka tube had a blue wire that I was told needs to be connected to an auxillary power source that will switch it on when the car comes on? **About the bazooka real quick... My dad helped me install it in my old car. I just took it out... and then put in my sisters car with the same head unit. I don't know what to do when trying to hook it up with the head unit in my friends truck. That's another story though. **
THE BLUE WIRE... or aux power or w/e it is. Where would be the best place to put that?

Anything that anybody has to say about this that can help me out makes you the coolest person in the yarisworld.com! pics of what your talking about would be very nice also since I am not very mechanically or electrically inclined :)

well, depends what deck your using; is it the stock deck????

if using the stock deck, you can wire the "blue" wire into the cigarette lighter wire, or even tap into it at the fuse box's cigarette fuse location. ( they sell a fitting to do this), basically anything that only gets power when the car is in run.

if using an aftermarket deck, it will have either a power antenna wire, or a "acc" wire which you would connect to the blue wire...

power wire, yep connect that to the battery, ground yep, find a nice bolt and remove it, and secure ground wire ( best way is to strip some paint off the body/frame, and screw your ground wire down...)

how would you hook up an aftermarket amp to run a small subwoofer... I remember in my car i had to buy a converter and tap off of the lines.... is that the same concept?

Right, but most after market decks have those Sub RCA's outputs so no need to tab into nothing. they also have a connection for that blue wire.

for the question with the blue wire tap into the lighter fuse if using a stock deck.

then make sure you get a good converter when tapping into any speaker wire believe me it makes things easier and it sounds a whole lot better. :headbang:

Cool, I guess I have it all figured out then. Thanks for the input guys! Should be a breeze installing it when I get it in the mail :) And yes, I am running the stock head unit. And stock speakers.

QUESTION!!! Where would be a better place to install this Infinity Basslink.... on the back door ( hatch, or w/e u call it ), or on the floor behind the back seat?? Or somewhere else... though I don't think it will fit anywhere else. Suggestions? Ideas?

GOT IT!!! And it sounds AWESOME!! I am very extremely pleased with it! Didn't need the converter. The infinity basslink comes with 4 speaker wire inputs that I spliced with the existing speaker wires. This helped alot:

I'm very happy with the Infinity Basslink. It's not going to win any competitions but it is a great compromise between ease of install, size, and sound. It provides enough bass to put a smile on my wife and make the mirrors rattle with vibrations. :smile:

I installed it on the left side so I could run power down the left side of the vehicle and the audio on the right...most of the cars power wires are on the left side of the vehicle, so installing it like this should minimize hum. You also have easy access to the controls of the unit when it is installed like this.

Since I don't have power mirrors, I used the spot reserved for mirror controls for my remote volume knob. I also cut a small notch in the cover over the cargo area so it operates normally. Seats still go down and I can still access the spare tire compartment with no problems.

I routed the cable through an usused grommet on the right hand side of the firewall, just behind the ECU. It comes into the cabin adjacent the the air/conditioning "stuff." Supposedly there is also an unused grommet behind the battery compartment but it is difficult to get to and I didn't have a lot of free time to look for it the night I installed this.

I just went outside (whew, it's 40 degress tonight) and snapped these pix for you. I have a Liftback, so I'm not sure if the Sedan looks the same. The grommet is the one that has high-temp RTV on it, which I covered it with just in case any water tried to make it's way through. :thumbup:

Thanks for the pics, I'll be taking a look before I drill today. I found that grommet behind the battery, and it is not easy to get to, at all. My hand barely fits through enough to feel it. and I can even stick my finger through it, but I cant get a cable through that. Hopefully I have the same grommet as you.

Yeah, I felt that same grommet and even took and the battery and said, "screw this!" If you have the same grommet behind the ECU (I think you should), just pop it out and drill a small hole in the middle of the rubber...I probably didn't have to put RTV on it because I doubt moisture was going to get through it (it was a snug fit)--I'm just anal retentive like that sometimes.
