I looked at my center control panel (Where the AC controls are) There is a ton of deep scratches in it. Mind you I never loaded anything big in the front of the car that would cause a scratch. Well upon further review I removed the black trim panels from the side and I put my nail on a unexposed part of the control panel and tried to scratch it. Well it made a huge gash in it. Does anyone else have this problem of the silver paint being very very soft or is it just me? I don't think the paint should scratch that easy.

Same here but I accepted the reality of our Yaris...
Economy car = economy paint.

Havn't noticed that yet with the silver, but the door panels drive me crazy. They are like sand paper, everything that touches them leaves a mark, I've given up after 2 months of ownership...

there is some kind of a film on the door panels dash and most of the black pieces, maybe a finishing spray, you will find that a damp cloth will make those scratches vanish, they aren't really scratches or scuffs:smile:
as far as the silver paint on the center console piece one option would be a light sanding and spray it whatever color you like, a little clear coat on top of that and you will have a very durable console
the matte silver paint is pretty weak but I haven't a single scratch in mine

Yeah.... crappy cheap paint... Having it sprayed is probably the best option...
BTW- This is WeDriveScions... nice seeing Scion guys in the Yaris World.

This probaby belongs in the detail section but here goes...
jdium, the interior door panels drove me crazy as well; they marked so damn easily and always looked a mess no matter how careful I was!
Anyway, against my better judgement, I sprayed them with some Turtle Wax F21 vinyl protectant. It didn't leave any nasty residue or glaring shine and my door panels have never had a mark since applyling it over 6 months ago!

I drove a tC the panels are no worse then it. My interior looked like ashy skin all the time so i'm used to that.
SmallCarGuy,
Nice to see you I barely ever leave the Toyota Scene unless its for a Honda. But I try to keep one of both at all times :)

I too am having problems with the silver paint, on doors and around stick shift..How do you get the shifter cowling off? It looks like the door arm rests will come off pretty easily?
Any tips or diagrams on this?
Thanks KJN

I take good care of my interior so I have no scratches on mine :iono: The door panels are PITA to keep clean though. Turtle wqax ice interior works real well for the interior. You can seriously apply it to every piece of the inside except your window tint :mamoru:
