Hey when I first saw the yaris at the Chitown autoshow in winter of 06 the first thing that struck me was that it had no side door moldings, no trim, nothing to protect your barcelona red doors from looking like a blizard in hell 2 years from now, so im asking other yaris owners what do they do to avoid the dings and dents of daily driver ownership.

Park in my spot correctly.. :iono:

i got a 240sx now, it doesn't have side moldings either, and it's got more door dings than i can stand, my hope is the yaris is so small it wont be a problem, but someone will eventually park too close and ding me... I'm already dreading that day.

parking correctly doesn't help, once my friend parked perfectly in the middle of his space, when we came back to the car it had a chip of paint missing and there was a huge truck next to his car with the chip stuck to its door. my friend left them a note, using his key on their paint job. he's got a bit of a temper when it comes to his car.

You can purchase the moldings in the apprpriate colour from your dealer.

I have had 5 dents removed already. I park very carefully, far away from everyone and everything. Total cost so far $235.00. I have thought of getting the mouldings. I just dont like the look of them.

the mouldings ruin the lines of the car, imo.

Maybe I dont get them because I only park in my garage at home, or the private garage at work.... hence the sarcasim of "parking correctly in my spot.."

I haven't even seen the moldings... didn't know that was an option. Any pics?

Please visit www.toyota.ca and use the accessory configurator to find out how the Yaris' body side moldings look like. I have not checked out Toyota's site for the US but similar illustrations may be found there too .

Agreed. I prefer it without.

For me, the problem is that side moldings only offer partial protection against dings and dents.

Sounds like you need to park your car inside a bubble then.. :bellyroll:

Went to the bank yesterday and parked in an EMPTY parking lot. When I came back out there was some huge brown van parked next to me on the passenger side - seriously the guy was about a foot and half from me, theres no way even Id be able to get out of it - no dents or dings however - must have taken them 20 minutes to get out...

Thats one of my pet peeves, a whole parking lot and some rusty turd parks inches from you.....

anyway.

LOL, there is a good comercial JUST like that, for DupliColor's touch up paint kit! Show's a completely empty parking lot, and some yahoo parks INCHES from the car, and nails the door! :bellyroll:

I think I have seen that commercial on TV too. Kind of bitter and funny.
What a world out there?! The only way to protect cars would appear to be to garage them. That's not right.
I remember that when I visited the dealership to buy my Yaris last year, I saw that many cars in the lot had something like a short section of transparent tube on their door edges. Must be a device to prevent dinging. Too bad such a thing won't be used after a car leaves the dealership's lot.
Back to side moldings, I think the bulky black rubber ones (after market, I presume) provide better protection than the slim colored ones offered by Toyota.
I have yet to see people bold enough to put them on the Yaris though .

You may be surprised at the slim oem door moldings. I had them on my malibu they were covered in dings and werent too noticable, not a scratch on the doors (till my better half totalled the car). At least the stock parts make an effort to fulfill two functions... otherwise youll have to just buy the gawdy black wood-grain and chrome things at the local parts store... lol.

Thank you so much for taking the time to elaborate:respekt:. Unfortunately, to me, dings and dents on OEM moldings themselves will also be difficult to ignore. The defaced moldings will cost more than a hundred dollars to replace. The black rubber ones do not show dings and dents like the colored ones.
Too bad that sometimes accepting the reality is the only solution :frown:.
BTW, I have just noticed that there is a stone chip on my car's door, may be instead of spending money to repaint the door, I should consider to cover the chip with a side molding:brokenheart:.

I know I keep saying it and hopefully at one point once things are worked out with the city and the company ive been dealing with it will be reality. But I will be selling (again hopefullly) side mouldings and other oem type products, accessories and aftermarket parts for the yaris. There is no way I shouldnt be able to beat toyotas price for side mouldings....

Damn I hate our Internet filters here at work. Can't install the Shockwave player because it's "freeware" and against policy. Stupid...... I can't even see pics on Yarisworld that aren't attachments because all image hosting websites are banned.

The problem I keep seeing with stock molding is that it's always placed too low on the door. 80% of the dings I've gotten over the years have been about 6-12" above the molding. Designers seem to have forgotten that truck doors are higher than car doors, and more common on the road here in the US.

Just a small beef with car manufacturers whether anyone agrees or not. Whats up with trucks these days? I have a 70 chev pickup and beside a new Ford or Chev it looks like a dinky toy...
My old boss bought a new ford for his construction company and he couldnt even get a sheet of plywood in the bed. Seems like trucks are meant more now for soccer moms than work.
Anyway....

My 240 got hit again! I went to the grocery store today and when I came out there was a new dent on the door, I assume it was the car next to me, but how can i be sure? I was in there a while... this mostly scares me for when my Yaris comes... i'm thinking I may want to get the side moldings for the sake of the car... my 240 has too many dings from doors to count...

I agree....I don't the side moldings look that bad on the Yaris. and if it saves me from dents I'm all there.

hahaha!! reality sux.

MikeUk, you gotta give us more info on the side mouldings that you have available for the Yaris. in japan, there aren't as many trucks/SUV's so these cars aren't exactly designed to withstand blows from Inconsiderate Soccer Moms....
I could stand a blow from a....err.nevermind.

Couldn't we all? And you prolly should not get people going on the soccer mom's cause they pay attention to nothing outside of the vehicle! :bs:
