View Full Version : Overall Coilover Quality

So, I'm ready to buy my coilover suspension. I'm 99% sure I am going to go with Tein Basics.
However, I can't help but wonder about the other non-Japanese brands of coilovers: KSport and Megan racing. Granted, both of these most likely come out of the same factory in Taiwan, how is the quality and durability? Will it be as good as Tein? I've heard both positive and negagive. You appear to get more for your money since they're adjustable. However, I wouldn't want to buy them if they're going to start leaking or blow after a short amount of time.
Anyone have any comments or thoughts on the KSports or Megan Racing coilovers?

I always go with Tein. If the others are as good or better for the same $$ or less, great. But you know with Tein you are getting quality. I would recommend other brands, but Tein is all I have used. And no complaints.
I realize that's not much help but my two cents. :)
I think a few here have the MR ones so I'm sure they'll chime in soon.

Tein will provide a very comfortable and smooth ride. Others will not. Compare spring rates.

i plan on getting ksports w/ custom rates (pretty much gonna copy the teins....but thinking 225f/200r)
if i didnt get the choice to run custom springs on the ksports id run tein's in a heartbeat....lots of guys on matrixowners.com have run with them for year without issues. there was recently a group buy on ksports so many are now running with them....the only complaints are the high spring rate up front w/ a soft rate in the back
email brad at www.neverenoughauto.com...tell him thebarber sent you and ask about pricing on teins and ksports....

Thirty-Nine, let me know what you do end up using and how you like it. There seems to be so much different stuff out there with pros and cons for each I'm not sure what route I want to go anymore. (Off topic, this was my 666th post!, hehe)

I'll more than likely get the Tein Basics. I had Tein S-Techs on my xB and they were nice. I would've like a bit stiffer of a ride, but I was also on stock shocks.
In all reality, I autocross 5-6 times a year, the rest of the time I'm driving to and from work. I don't need a super-stiff suspension for that.
I hear the Tein quality is supposed to be pretty good. I've heard some negatives about Megans and KSports, mostly on other forums (Honda-Tech, Scionlife).

I would run Megan over the Teins... always had horrible luck with Tein stuff and it's really not any different when it comes to quality. The Megan is at least separetely height adjustable and has more decent spring rates. Having the damper adjustment doesn't hurt either.

Well, I decided to get the Megans today. I'll let you know how they work and such!

What about the Tein Super Sports if you can find them?

I can't find SS anywhere. I know eTiMaGo says he has a set, but I can't find them.
I got a good deal on Megans, too. I know they're stiff, but that's okay by me. I'd rather have too stiff of a ride than too soft at this point. I can always crank them to full-soft. It appears only a couple of Yarisworld members have these at the moment, though. We'll see.

I keep hearing coilovers dont last anywhere near as long as our current shocks.
What should I believe?
