Oh Lord... Please No......nooooooo
ATLANTA, GA - Gaywheels.com, the sole source of information specifically targeted to and about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) car-shoppers, today announced its list of the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles during the second quarter of 2007. For the fourth straight quarter, the entry-level Toyota Yaris maintained the top position, while for the first time ever, a Nissan product, the Infiniti-branded FX sport-utility vehicle, joined the list.
Gaywheels.com Top 10 Most Researched Vehicles -April - June, 2007
1. Toyota Yaris
2. Saab 9-3 (sedan and convertible)
3. Mazda MX-5
4. Volkswagen Jetta
5. VW EOS
6. Dodge Caliber
7. Toyota Camry
8. Audi A3
9. VW Rabbit
10. Infiniti FX
I guess gay people are poor nowadays and are just searching for a good econo car. Lol, I dunno. I work at a gas station and one thing is for sure, gay people drive VWs :P.

You're right, it doesn't matter and shouldn't bother any straight guy secure in their masculinity to know that a gay man might like the same car. I personally feel gay driving my Yaris but then again, when don't I feel gay?

Sometimes I think studies like the one in the original post are made by people just hoping to start a big heated discussion. Quite frankly, I care not if more Yaris owners have sneakers than shoes. Or have blonde hair vs. black. Or if they're gay. It's a car; a machine built to drive on the road. Not something to label the driver as fat, or black, or gay. Foolishness all of it.
That said, I love my Yaris, no matter what :smoking:

That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread. Gays know style. I bet Queer Eye will be trading in that black Suburban for a Yaris any time now. hehe
Seriously though, the Yaris does have a very unique and funky but cute style.

Gay Yaris owner here! :smoking:
A few things on my mind after reading through the thread, but first of all, this was not a 'study' released to the news media to try to stir up some controversy. If you would actually check out the link you would see that this is simply an article posted on an auto website that is catered to gay folks. So it was meant for the eyes of those who visit the site, not for adolescent minded individuals to be grossed out. (grow up?)
Secondly, to the comments about the Yaris 'not seeming gay' or 'never having seen gay people drive it' ... well let me propose to you the mind-blowing idea that maybe... just maybe, you can't instantly tell when someone is gay by looking at them...especially in passing. Despite what many would like to believe, there is an awful lot(if not the majority) of gays that are not effeminate. You just may not realize it because they don't wear it on their sleeve. ;)
That's all for now I guess. Hope that didn't come off too combative... just wanted to set some things, uhhh straight.

I may be totally off base here, so some of our homosexual members feel free to correct me.
For some reason I'm under the impression that a multitude of homosexuals are into environmental causes as well. That could easily account for the Yaris' popularity in that poll. Didn't see where anyone mentioned that idea.

It's a little more broad, in that they tend to support more of the liberal causes, in general. Which makes a lot of sense if you think about it. But let's not turn this into a political debate. I'd say that has more potential to get locked down faster than a gay thread. ;)
But yes, good point... the Yaris has a strong following from anyone who supports the green movement.

That is just me being a pissed off liberal, sorry.
I am not sure when being a.) too poor to afford any other car, or b.) smart enough to know that you don't need more car, made you a homo. I could see the 'I love it when balls are in my face' rainbow bumper sticker on a Yaris being gay, but any more so than some dude wearing jeans three sizes too small and a cowboy hat in a jacked up v8 4x4 that never leaves the pavement?

The original link/"study" is ridiculous, of course. If you really wanted to know the "gayest" car, you'd have to compile a similar list from "straightwheels.com" (or, failing that, edmunds.com), and find the differential between the click rate for each car on the two different sites. If it turns out the Yaris is NOT in the top 5 on non-gay auto Web sites, then, sure, maybe you've got something.
It's just like those lists of the "most stolen vehicles," where it turns out Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys are at or near the top of the list. Gosh, I wonder why... maybe because there are gazillions of them out there?! They need to show us ratios, not raw numbers... and everyone should learn to be a better "consumer of information."

Yeah the prejudice against small cars run deep. If I had a choice, I would've gotten a 1.0L diesel that UK offered to get even better fuel economy, but sadly not offered in US. Lol, none of my friends approved of getting a yaris, they're like why? But to me, small cars can fit into small parking spaces, get excellent fuel economy (physics says it takes less energy to move something that has less mass, i think 500 lbs lighter than average sedan counts as less mass), can do amazingly small turns and has better bang/buck; and I think this >>>>> trumps a powerful engine. Which makes me wonder, if I pedaled to the medal, the acceleration on the Yaris would get me a speeding ticket, so I really don't know what the boundary for excessive acceleration is because my Yaris already reaches that level.
One thing I would like would be leather seats.

Not sure about this one. I think to drive one of these in Michigan you have to be secure in your masculinity. 99% of the rest of the cars are bigger than you, and you have to "compete" on the roads with them.
I actually take the exact opposite view of "gay" vehicles:
When I see some guy with a HUGE truck that's got 40" tires, 10" lift, etc., I think to myself ... THAT is so gay. Or if not gay, at least that those guys must be compensating for some other "shortcoming" that they have.
In any case I think there's a lot "gayer" vehicles out there.

It's very true.
There's so many SUVs and bigger cars here it's unbelievable. You almost have to have an overly aggressive mindset when you go driving. I consider myself a really good driver and I don't drive like a jerk, but I also don't back down from other jerk motorists no matter how big their vehicle is.
I know I can't get a V8 in my car, but it does make me REALLY want a TRAIN HORN for when the @$$holes you mentioned get out of line.

Maybe gays are less inhibited to go against the grain to choose a small car that's practical vs. a midsize sedan. Lol I know I get ribbed for choosing a yaris over a "normal car," but I chose it because it offered "features" that I want that other cars don't have. Features: high MPG, compactness so I could park in LA, tight turning radius and maneuverability, versatility in terms of cargo, toyota reliability and because it looked good. Lol I think the only problem with it is the fact that it only realistically fits 4 people. Price was not really a factor, I could've gotten a fit, corolla, camry, but they looked too big and wasteful to me.

Well as a gay man I don't find it ridiculous that there is a company that researches this. Gaywheels.com provides alot of information to the glbt community from my experience most car guys and gays don't mix well kinda like water and electricity. and from a marketing standpoint people shouldn't underestimate the gay community.. GLBT people tent to have a higher disposable income than your average consumer and in car terms there are a few manufacturers that target consumers on various GLBT sites.
