Yaris World members can actually talk about things other than drag racing!
I've been spending an equal amount of time here and on Stangnet (since I am, after all, due to receive my '08 GT within the next few weeks), and lemme' tell 'ya, those guys have a collective one-track mind. "Quarter mile" this and "gear ratio" that and "How do the 197 times compare to <insert apples-to-oranges car here>".....
Sheesh! I just wanted an old car without having to restore it, with air bags! The site is an absolute treasury of technical info.... most of which I'll never need, since I'm not building a race car.
It'd be nice if they could chill out a bit, take a few notes from YW here, and relaaaax.

I know what you mean. I am involved in quite a few forums that rarely venture out into other subjects other than the one the forum is about. So boring. I am a very random person and I need an outlet.
Thanks Yaris World, Thank you good!

Do they ever talk about steering or turning a curve YR? And I bet they cuss out all things Japanese or asian too. And I bet there's a great love of NASCAR there too.

I used to be apart of a monte carlo forum and mainly they just nit pick at peoples hard work, talk about painting the interior and and fixing the car. no real performance anything its a site devoted to the 5th gen monte and everything goes bad on that car

To answer your question red, they have a few import-haters, but for the most part, they seem pretty open minded for a forum dedicated to an "American legend". They've given many an import its props, more notably the 350Z and, of all things, a Neon SRT-4.
Very little talk of turning, though. Just a time or two has anyone mentioned enjoying mountain roads. Most of their suspension talk focuses on getting their 300-550HP to the ground with minimal loss on launch.
I've not seen one peep about NASCAR, believe it or not!

somehow I doubt there is a 20-page thread on fuel economy, or anything about the benefits of DFCO

You should have seen the Mustang forums back in the mid/late 90's when I 1st joined them, they have matured much since then. Most Mustang performance enthusiasts are into drag racing because that is what their car's are best at. Starting with the 5.0, "late model" Mustangs have been powerful with only adequate brakes and suspensions, thus it was cheaper to just go fast straight. A Yaris is blesses with no power and no weight, thus it's cheaper to go left/right quickly.
thecorral.net has a pretty large twisty contingent. Not sure about the S197 groups focus, but there is a lot of info out there if you ask.
Very little bashing of other cars, no Nascar booger-eaters, and a much larger overall knowledge base makes for some good websites...

Well Daimler Chrysler is German American or American German. It was the merger of an American company and German so its both as Chrysler infused American and German engineering in its cars mostly with the Chrysler part but I don't know how much content is in the Dodge division that is German per say.
Of course now Diamler has sold off Chrysler so now its just good ol' American. Of course with today's global market its hard to tell what is "import," and what is "domestic" as parts or platforms or whatever is interchanged. Sorry to get off topic.

I was actually considering who makes the engine. Mitsubishi, no? I was under the impression that, at least once upon a time, the Neon and the Lancer were kin.

at the time the SRT-4 was being made Diamler-Chrysler AG was a German company....
Hell, there are more Toyota Camery's or Honda Civic's made in the US than there are Ford F-150's

Mitsu and Mopar are kin.... they share parts up untill 07, that I know of.... mitsu built 1/2 of the 01-07 Stratus/Sebring's.... and the parts are not compatable with the DC built ones.... found that out real fast while working at the Chrysler dealership

I do find that the people on YW for the most part are super nice, level headed people with a well rounded discussion base.
I just don't get the cars getting insane HP and Torque. You can't drive it like a normal car on the road and cops just love to see you coming. I guess at the drag strip you can have fun, but all the rest of the time you must bridal the ponies. I guess they like them loud so people will check them out.
I think it makes more sense to have a turbocharged Yaris. Costs a lot less and it's a sleeper that cops wont notice unless you are beating a muscle car or something.
To me that seems to be a lot more fun. More bang for the buck, and you can drive it daily and have a blast the whole time.
I know a guy with a Z06 Corvette. Has all that performance, but never romps down on it because he'll get a ticket. WTF?!
