hello!

i'm just picked up a black 07 5-door yaris hatchback and it is soon time for me to buy a set of winter tires. the 14 inch stock tires i feel won't cut it in canadian winters...

would anyone comment if 16 inch tires can be accomodated on the yaris??

There is soooo much information on this in the wheels room. I hope you don't get flamed too much on this as you're new, but you can find everything you're looking already posted in that wheels, tires, suspension forum.

Stock 14' steels rims are perfect size for winter tires and they can take a beating without deforming. However, you'll need to swapout the all-season (or no-season, if you're a realist) for winter rubbers. 16' is a good size for the summer rubber. When the weather gets better, you can alway swap the stock tires back on, or if you have the cash, sell the stock rubbers and get 16' alloys.

Actually 14's are your best bet for the winter. Install 4 narrow snow tires and you'll be fine.

For the summer, you can run 16" wheels and tires. JDM OEM 16's are 195/50/16. However, that size is not as common here in the States, so most install 205/50/16's. They'll fit perfectly on an unlowered Yaris.
