For the old guy around here, someone please explain the benefits of HID to me. Is it for better light for night time driving or just for the cool looks? You have to forgive this 40 year old, I'm not up to speed on all this yet. Thanks for the help.

i used to have 5000k hid's in my matrix....
they are so much brighter (especially at 5k colour) youll never want to use halogens again.
i went back to halogens when i parted out my matrix and it was such (pun intended) a night and day difference in light out put
i want hid's for the yaris. its not just for show.
study the colour chart of hid's......4300 is the best light output....the higher you go up into the diamond whites, blues and the purples, the less usable light you actually get and the more 'showy' the hid's become.
in my opinion 5000k colour temp hids are the best.

Great article. Thanks for the link. THAT was exactly what this old man was looking for. My mind is made up. I'll stick with my stock set up. Thanks again.

The stock bulbs (Koito) are acceptable. An excellent alternative to the stock bulbs is OSRAM (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7679&highlight=osram+review). It's not HID.

its not HIDs that i cant stand, its the fuckers with those big-ass SUVs equipped with them that aim them so damn high that they blind the crap outta all oncoming traffic. i guess it increases safety for the user since everyone else around them will be getting in accidents. this situation is very tough for me since i live in LA, the land of "17-year old blonde bitches with an incessant need to drive escalades/range rovers/navigators/expeditions."

it's because those bimmers and mercedez's projector HIDs aim so damn STRAIGHT that you think they are aimed really high.... :)

If those vehicles are lifted they probably disregarded the fact that the headlights need to be re-aimed.
