17's or 16's with lower? HELP PLEASE!!!!

hey guys, im planning to get rims next month and now i need some of your expert ideas. i originally planning to go with 17 inches and no lowering. but now im thinking, i want my car to LOOK lower so not sure if the 17's would do that without actual lowering so ive been considering 16's with lowering springs. not sure which package would look better so please help me out with your ideas and if you know any pics, please post it as well. thanks a lot.

If you go 16's you can go with taller tires and 17's would obviously not give you that good cushion. I would just look around and see some of the other guys cars and see what ya think. I think I am going to go 16's later on and I have mine lowered with the Tanabe NF kit which brings it down like 1.2 inches.

16 with lower ^^ 17s are alright but i dont think the ride is that comfy =P check out the for "sticky" posts in the wheels, tires, and suspension forums to get some more ideas ^^ hope that helps

17s with low profile? of course ^^ Etimago is lowered on Tein coilovers and has 17s i believe ^^

Assuming your getting the same model with the same width...then 16's would be best for Daily driving. Due to the smaller circumference it'll be less work to get the wheels rotating; lesser weight to get the wheels rotating; more cushion for the pushing (sorry couldn't help myself); cheaper cost for wheels & tires; if lowering w/ just springs you have a lower car physically and visually; less surface area to clean rims w/ more surface area for shiny tires; and that's all i can think of this late in the night.

I personally have 17's but soon to change to either 15's or 16's. Our car has lots of show but very little go. For me a peppier car is to my liking. Saving gas money,tire replacement money, slightly quicker and lower stance floats my boat. Beside, I find big rims being played out.

Don't know if you can see but the stock red yaris barely sit higher then the other red yaris w/ the white 17's. The white rims i believe is using Df210's Oh the white rim yaris is also stripped so take that into account. What I'm trying to say, all though the car is lowered...just doesn't look like it to me...all i see is the wheel gap shortened

It sounds like you want a soft comfortable ride for daily driving but a nice visual improvment also. You should get 16's with Tanabe NF210 springs. I have 17's with NF210's and I love the look and have never rubbed but the ride is no fun over train tracks.

NF210's are the softest drop spring available in case you were going to ask.

I've got 16's with a 205/50 tire, and lowered 1.5" front and rear, I could probably go lower but I would see some rubbing, I can post a pic if you'd like?

If you don't lower the car, an aftermarket wheel with improper offset will acentuate the already large wheel gap. The trick with an unlowered car is to keep the offset as high as possible which keeps the wheels/tires nicely tucked.

As well, the appearance of wheel gap increases with decreases in tire sidewall.

I sent you a pm. I have some lowering springs sitting in my garage doing nothing since I got coilovers and I'm thinking of getting another set next year. I ran the springs on 17 inch 40 offset rims with 215 x 40 series.
On aggressive turns it did rub a bit, but with 205's they won't rub.

I only had them on the car for about 4 - 5 months, but did two autocross events in them with stock struts. It did pretty well and out ran all the mini's that were there to compete.

They lower the car about 1.5inches. They are the same as the Megan lowering springs but in red (Spirit springs).

You won't have any rubbing problems if you run the proper wheel offset and tire size, and of course, don't dump your car!

Good choice of offsets, and a common Japanese application for the Vitz.

BTW, how do you like the Nitto tires? I was thinking of getting Nittos soon.

With your current offsets, could you run 215/50/16's without rubbing? (They're just about the same height as a 205/45/17). Then, you'd fill-in the wheel gap just a bit more, which may make you happier, and you'd have a wider footprint as well.

Anyway, I like the current drop on your car; even gap above, front, and back of each tire... looks great!

The Nittos have been very kind to me so far even though I don't really push them to their limits. The ONLY time I have ever rubbed was when I had 4 people in the car and went over some rr tracks. Aesthetically, I'd rather go for more of a drop than a taller tire. Plus I don't even know if any of the springs that offer more of a drop, offer an EVEN drop. Either way I have been very pleased with this setup so far.

i believe the Tein S.Tech's drop the LB 1.9" all the way around. for me, i think it was at least 2" in my sedan.
